Working on a quilt for basset hound rescue. A friend had purchased a throw with a hand painted panel with hounds. Whoever did the lovely artwork put this dogawful badly mitered afterthought of a border and backed it with one of those woven aphgans with fringe. Truly awful but the handpainted panel was in good shape so since my friend watched one of my hounds for a week in the spring I offered to take it apart and finish it. All was going fabulously. Keep in mind I'm a fairly new quilter and I always attempt things I haven't a clue how to do. I squared the panel and framed it with a small border so I could add this adorable checkerboard border. It went on perfectly! So impressed by myself I decided to make another border using the small wedge ruler. I watched the tutorial half a dozen times, then started cutting yesterday to sew today. I had almost enough together for the top border a little while ago when I realized that when I would go to sew it to the quilt I would lose every single point. When I sewed the triangles together I was supposed to have a 1/4" overhang at the point-not at the base. Back up and start again.

Well, bummer!! I might be tempted to pretend those triangles weren't supposed to have points.! :)

Trim more of the points away or rip and sew? Sometimes you just have one of those days.:(

Ripping out and re-doing, is how I managed to get a lot of my sewing experience. ;) Hang in there! :)

I had lots of the colored triangles cut and needed to cut more of the cream ons anyway so just started over. I'm almost back where I left off with the bad border so not too bad. I'm just glad I caught it before I had all 4 sides of the border done. Sadly, this is how I learn although the tutorial could have been a bit clearer. I had a similar experience with half square triangles that were thismuch to small and had to do them over.

I would too. Good luck in your project and hang in there. We have ALL learned to be better quilters thru our mistakes. You know the old saying of when you find lemons, make lemonade !!

They aren't triangles, they are volcanos. Mt. Fuji doesn't come to a point.
