i like patterns (currently making blocks of stripes w/blocks of pattern next to that w/solids for sashing)

I have both and use both, but prefer blenders to straight solids. I'm making a quilt for my husband and he's requested ONLY solid fabrics. No blenders, no patterns, no tone on tones...just solids. I'm procrastinating with it...I really need to get going on it, though. I'd like to have a good start on his top by late February - he's out of the country until then, and I'd like for him to see that I've done *something* with it since he's been gone. LOL

I am in the same boat! I have had to force myself to get some less "busy" fabrics to calm down my quilts a little. I like them, though. If someone thinks they are too busy, then don't look! I have bought some solids for embroidery, though. What a fun discussion

i think prints look best, but every once in awhile i try a solid and it works...

I rarely have solid. If it is "solid", it is always tone on tone.

I almost never use solids except for black. Well, after I went through my Amish phase!

Have a few colored solids, lots of Kona White, but really like the prints cause they r just so pretty........

For me it is very few true solids, more tone on tone. I usually pick a patterned fabric for the focal fabric. Sometimes if I am doing black and white, I will use solid black to make the b/w pattern material pop.

Early on I bought several different solids, thinking that they would come in handy. They haven't. Now I only buy solids in black, white, and natural, and they're for special projects.

I always go for tone on tone....whether it is fusions or batiks...I just like the flow with the batik or the fact that the fusions are not just one tone of color...if that makes sense...solid colors look flat to me
