This is really an interesting thread for me. Many of you don't like solids and it seems to be the same situation here in Germany. I rarely see quilts with solids in it.

A few years ago I could visit an exhibition with antique Amish quilts and they were all made by solid fabrics. These quilts were so fascinating to me! Their simplicity and the intricate hand quilting always inspires me so much. They were not boring at all...

Tone on tone, batiks, things that read solid are my favourites. I use solids too on occasion, but the "patterned" fabric in my stash is somewhat limited.

I use both depending on the personality of the quilt.

I wrote I buy tone-on-tone but...I have to agree...kids quilts are a different matter. The more colorful the better for them. I agree with this one !!!

Also they are a little less expensive and for kids quilts they usually get a lot of hard use LOL

What solids I use are usually traditional Amish patterns. The white and black I usually like the white on white, or black on black.

I am really bad to buy small flower print. I have yards of it. I love them all. One day I hope to make a dwr out of them. Of course, when I make a quilt I never have the solid to go with them so i have to go shopping!!
