One time I was making a quilt with 3" squares and one of the fabrics looked like dark aqua from one direction and nearly black from the other. Not realizing that quilting cotton could have nap, too, I didn't see it until I was nearly done. It was in the middle of the quilt, looking for all the world like a black hole. So, I bit the bullet and very carefully loosened and tied off the surrounding seams. This took a Long Time because the quilt top was big and bulky. Then, I very carefully reset the square and restored the seams - the Very Same Way. :( Hugs, Charlotte |

[ATTACH=CONFIG]480358[/ATTACH] I never noticed it until it was already basted ! That was the last time I ever basted ANYTHING without giving it a long hard look first ! It is a great quilt though, it has a permanent place on my bed LOL. |
I like the second picture better. In my opinion that is how they should be made. I haven't made blocks like those.

At least you noticed it before you sewed it into your quilt top! Not that I would know *anything* about that....! :cool:

I have to admit - I chuckled when I saw the block - because I know how many times I've done the same thing myself.
I participate in a yearly sewalong for Project Linus where 30-40 of us get together and make quilts for a few hours. We've done this for 15 years and it never fails - I ALWAYS get the rows messed up at least once and have to rip them apart and re-sew. :mad: |
I too have done 'block-ectomies' and I posted one on the board some time ago. At least you didn't have to rip out a whole block and reformat it from the finished quilt top !!! I had to do that with an on-point thing that was all bias. Big pieces but still needed to be tamed to get them back together again nice and flat.
Like you, I can laugh at it. I look at everything I do in quilting as some measure of fun and a full measure of satisfaction. Otherwise ...shhhh it will be a UFO...don't tell on me! |
I was pushing myself to finish pinwheels for a baby quilt gift when I noticed the last two blocks I made looked nothing like pinwheels. What a mess I had made. Lucky for me I found them before I started putting the quilt together.
