I have been away from the board for last couple of weeks due to an acute illness my mother had. We have been at the hospital the entire time and then the hospice. My mum was just 65 and died a few days ago. My sister and I are now going through her belongings and have come across a quilt I made her and also a quilt that I made my grandmother which is a family tree quilt. We have washed them and my sister, whom doesn't really like quilts, has requested to have the family tree quilt. I am so pelased I made these quilts for the women of my family and now have them for my sister and I to wrap ourselves in. I am a youngish quilter and these two quilts were earlier in my quilting life and I don't see the errors any longer but the love of the women in my life. Don't let perfection rob you of making quilts for those you love!

My condolences on the loss of your mother. I'm glad you have these quilts as great mementos.

My mother passed on a few years ago and I didn't get any of the quilts that she had made. My 4 sisters figured that, since I make quilts, I wouldn't want any....

Sending my condolences.
I have alot of MIL's old quilts. She gave them to us long before she passed at 97 years young.
Sometimes I sit in my chair and wrap one around me to stay warm and theres an unusual 9 patch that I wonder about. It was made @ 1950's and I often wonder where she got the fabric. Was it from old clothes or did she buy the fabric.
All the batting has disintegrated.

In my cedar chest is DH's baby quilts. They are mainly pinkish color. I do remember her saying they used alot of pinks during that time which would of been during the war.

Sending prayers of comfort along. How nice that you and your sister could agree on the quilts. Enjoy the comfort in knowing they were enjoyed by you dear mom.

It is so hard for a lady to lose her Mom. There is just such a connection with our Mom's. I thought I was a orphan when mine died, even through, I still have my two sisters.

My deepest sympathy. Those quilts will be such a special connection.

Maria I am so sorry to hear your beloved mother passed away so young. Unfortunately I know that pain too as my mother passed away 6 years ago this month at the young age of 67. My then 17 year old daughter had made a quilt together with me as my mom when she was diagnosed. After she was gone it went to my daughter. She cherises it. Thank you for your story and inspiring and encouraging us to make quilts. )))))))Quilty Hugs((((((((((

Condolences from Texas. My sister, Mother and I made a pink and burgundy log cabin quilt before my mother passed away. We had the casket draped with the quilt during the funeral, and my sister said for me to take it afterward! I was so blessed to have a wonderful Mother and Sister, who has passed away now, to quilt with and we learned from each other.

One of the main reasons I make quilts is that when I am gone...they can remember me......
