Square fits my bed but rectangular is great for sleeping on the couch. Just depends.

My preference is rectangle.

Rectangle, I've only made quilts for beds. Makes more sense.

....usually the patterns I'm drawn to aren't square....I prefer the rectangular ones - need that length and not so much width (if that makes sense).

You can always modify!!!

depends if its a wall hanging lap quilt or bed quilt, bed quilt definitely has to be rectangle everything else doesn't matter to me

If the pattern is square I prefer to make changes to avoid a square quilt.

Ditto. They look better on a bed, and sofa covers to wrap around you. My family is TALL.

Because we have a king size bed, I make the quilts for it square, and try to choose patterns that are not directional. Much easier to change bedding, the quilt fits, no matter what.piecefully, the old one

Rectangle for me.
