I have the Janome MC6600P and have never taken the foot pedal out of its package. I ONLY EVER use the Start/Stop button. Love it. Taught my 12 yr. old GD how to use it on my machine.

I use the stop/start button in summer when I and FMG. it stops my feet from getting that burning sensation from long bouts of sewing.

Daisygirl. the 440 has a start/stop button.

The only "start/stop" I have is my embroideey machine - it doesn't have a foot pedal LOL

I'm with you! I love the start/stop button for most sewing, but FMQ is like a dance using your hands and feet all together.

What do I have to do so the needle doesn't go up and down except when I move the fabric?

I have it on both of my Janomes and use it some -
