I have a desk organizer that lets you stand file folders in, in a couple of sections, with cubby holes in the front. The file sections ikeep my longer/larger rulers. Front section shorter, so the 6-1/2" and smaller ones go there nicely. In front again are three more cubby's for pencils and scratch pads. One has my two rotary cutters, another some odds and ends of tools, and the middle one has my calculator.

Another re-purposed item is one of those brass newspaper holders you keep at the fireplace. Solid and heavy and great for holding pattern books.

I bought a circular tie holder at Walmarts

I need to take pictures of some of the items I use in my sewing room that my Dad built. I really have a legacy, and with this item, you will, too!

Please see post about items my Dad made! I think I posted it in the wrong way!

I like the one your dad is making you. The plate racks sound like a neat idea. I use to have one of those but probably got rid of it when I moved. Now I need it. I keep mine hanging on a pegboard over my work area.

When I get my sewing room organized (and who knows how long that will take  ), I'm going to have a pegboard so everything will be in sight!

You can use peg board and peg hooks to hang rulers that have holes drilled in the ends. I had my husband drill holes in the ends of rulers that didn't have them so I could hang them all. It's nice especially for the triangle rulers because I can find them when I need them.

I have a small sewing area in my dining room so my thread is on a holder on the wall and my rulers hang on nails next to it. Clears my area for sewing.

If you can get your hands on a used metal file holder, they are heavy and can hold your rulers. You could even spray paint an old one to match sewing room. I also attached a pic of another idea I had seen.

I have nails on my walls (some from previous pictues). I try and group them by type, size etc. They are all up there out of the way and I don't have to search for them or worry about breaking them from having them lying around.
