Kinda like getting your kids the gift they really really wanted when they were young, and they end up playing with the box :-). Don't worry, some day they will see the light, and flip the skirt over to the right side.

kindly explain to them, that they can cover it up with presents, but the top needs to be up! sigh

I think that is a cute story. It's funny what our recipients do when we give them one of our treasures.

I think they are preserving the top for future generations. It will be an heirloom, you know. Too funny. (Well, kind of sad too.) Hope you can continue to release it to be used as they desire. But I think one day, they will see the light and turn it the right way. Next time back it with muslin. :-)

As long as they love it both sides will eventually be appreciated (smile).

That is just too funny... I guess the old saying goes... different strokes for different folks... backing must be something special that catches them...
|
At least they like it!! :)

Something very similar happened to me. I made a beautiful (IMHO) Warm Wishes using "musical fabrics" and nice blenders. On the back where only he could enjoy were large appliques of silouettes of his own guitars and various "scraps" from the front of the quilt. Plus the size was a couch size for him to use in his large recliner. Well, I go to visit and where is the quilt? across the top of his queen size bed with the backing UP. Hilarious! I told him I know where his priorities lie. I explained to him that the label, which was a large eighth note with the information embroidered in white. He thought that should be on the front. Needless to say, he LOVES his quilt!

Here's another way to look at this. You've made them a reversible tree skirt! Who knows, maybe next year they'll use the "right" side. I often do this when making table runners and wall hangings, especially around the holidays so one side will be Christmas and the other winter-related. In the fall, one side is Fall and the other is Thanksgiving. Truthfully, I started doing this because I was too busy to make piece and quilt two projects so I combined them into one. Congratulations on your reversible tree skirt being used and loved! :-)
