I actually just got back from a surprise weekend with a friend - DH arranged it and gave me 30 minutes notice on Friday before she got there! :shock: I haven't been away from DD since she was born (May 09) so he thought it would be nice for me to have some quiet time to sew and hang out before #3 came along... I did get the PP done though! Not sure where my camera is right now, but when I find it I will post a pic. It turned out really cute! I didn't have a way to enlarge it so I just did the small one which was a bit challenging at times (those moon pieces are TINY!) and it took a while to figure out angles and things when cutting pieces, but I made it! I'm excited to have more quilting options now since I have passed over a LOT of PP blocks over the past couple of years. Yay!

Cute patterns! From my experience, I started paper piecing with a friend, and she was good at it. She recommended to me to not have many lines in a beginning project. I appreciated her advice, after I had done a couple. It can get frustrating to tackle something too difficult, and you have to take out. "Taking out," can be even more frustating as the paper tears, you have to tape it, then sew over the tape, ect.
I did some in a paper piecing book which has not many small seams, ect. I will be happy to look it up for your if you want. Just pm me;

I was able to teach myself with Carol Doakes beginner paper piecing book that I got from the library. I don't recall the actual name of the book, but it was very easy to follow and gave very clear step by step instructions. She has many patterns available and I really love a lot of them. They are not too complicated but very nice looking once you get them done.

Yes, those are some teeny-tiny pieces in that sun! If you can do that pattern without problems, I can now legally pronounce you a Paper Piecer! You are good to go! You have a very thoughtful DH to set up such a nice break for you! :lol:

I have that book ( 50 fabulous stars) it is my favorite PP book. I have made it through all and then some. It is worth every penny.

I'll have to look that up - star patters are my favorites!

I started with the chimney area as a warm up, then moved to the moon to get it over with... I was afraid that if I saved it for last I would never finish it! :lol: I am going to try the cat one as a gift for DH's 91 yr old great-aunts bday (she's a total sweetheart!)

Hello Moonange12! I have done several reginagrewe PP projects, free ones + have purchased her patterns as well. They are pretty easy to do, especially the one you referred to. I have made this one in different color combinations. I'm making her Mushroom blocks now (also free). Try her Tulips, it is lovely!
(Edit) Have you checked the Thimbleberries way to PP? Google thimbleberries tutorials. You fold the freezer paper, don't sew through it so there's no tearing off the paper which I hate.
