I don't know if this is good or bad....

I recently reconnected with a friend of mine on Face Book. She likes my quilts and we got to talking...she knits...

I have 2 lawn and garden bags of yarn from when my mom died. I offerred to send it to her and she said "I have a little bit of material I could trade you for it".

So I though ok - but I was willing to give her the yarn for nothing in exchange.

I came home today from errands and I had THREE - yes THREE Large Priority Mail boxes on my porch - FILLED WITH MATERIAL. Some of its already cut but 2 of the boxes were nothing but folds of material - nothing less than a yard. I was going to lay it out and take pictures but I'm so over whelmed...Ladies I kid you not this has to be 30 yards of uncut material and over 100 cut squares and 100 cut rectangles.

I feel like the yarn I am sending her is no where near worth what she sent me.

Awww, that's really nice!! I'm sure she'll love the yarn though. It's not cheap! Sounds like you have quite a bit to send her.

CarrieAnne 01-29-2011 02:35 PM

What an awesome trade!

ljfox 01-29-2011 02:35 PM

She will be thrilled with the yarn just like you are thrilled with the fabric.

Stitchnripper 01-29-2011 02:36 PM

Maybe you are doing her a favor too, because she knows the fabric will be in a good place and no longer her responsibility.

Cherylsea 01-29-2011 02:36 PM

I would just graciously accept the gift. She obviously didn't plan to use the material as you don't plan to use the yarn. Both of you benefit and both of your homes have less "clutter"! Be happy

frugalfabrics 01-29-2011 02:37 PM

I"m sure she will appreciate what you send her...sounds like she just wanted to be a blessing to you too.

momto4 01-29-2011 02:37 PM

Wow! You lucky duck! :D Put up some pics!! :D :D

Twisted Quilter 01-29-2011 02:37 PM

Wow...now that's a swap!

sewingsuz 01-29-2011 02:37 PM

That was a surprise for you. She will be happy with the yarn. how nice to trade.

Alex J 01-29-2011 02:39 PM

It seems that it was sent from both of you straight from the heart. Enjoy it. Pass it forward.

babyboomerquilter 01-29-2011 02:42 PM

Some of that yarn is really expensive. I know because I crochet also. Maybe she feels like what she sent you was not near enough for all that yarn you sent her. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I love it!

pamkasperi 01-29-2011 02:56 PM

I don't know much about yarn - but when my mom passed away we found boxes under her queen size bed with nothing but yarn in them - it filled 2 black lawn and garden bags...it was alot but I have no use for it....

I'm so excited - this was a great trade!

Vicki W 01-29-2011 03:04 PM

Sounds like a good deal for both of you. You received something you didn't expect and can use. She is recieving something she can use. Use and enjoy!

AnnieF 01-29-2011 03:17 PM

Do you know what's wonderful about this? It's a win-win for both of you. You off-loaded yarn you had no use for and she off-loaded fabric she had no use for. Now you'll both have lots to talk about on Facebook as you sew and she knits....wonderful way to re-connect!

Mimito2 01-29-2011 03:23 PM

Sounds like you both will come out with what you need. Great exchange.

jaymemade 01-29-2011 03:41 PM

I agree, a win-win! Enjoy!

jrhboxers 01-29-2011 03:43 PM

The amounts do not have to be equal in anyway. The thrill that you experienced with your end will be just as high on her end. You are both forwarding on items that your mother's loved and giving them to someone who will appreciate and use them. Much better that they be forwarded than just sit around and have no use. And I am sure that both of your Moms would agree.

And youboth get the pleasure of knowing that something that was basically useless to you now has a new home where it will be used and appreciated as it should be. As your mom and hers would have wanted.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-29-2011 03:43 PM

Just saw the pics!! Those Peanuts and other novelties are darling!!!!!!!!!! :D:D

cherylynne 01-29-2011 03:54 PM

I suppose that if you feel really guilty you could make her a table runner or candle mat. Hopefully she will not feel obligated to make you something. Maybe just accept the fabric graciously and thank her for her thoughtfulness. Enjoy because now she knows the fabric is being appreciated.

sweet 01-29-2011 04:01 PM

Seems like a win-win situation!

mrspete 01-29-2011 04:17 PM

Looks like the deal of the century to me. Congrats.

pamkasperi 01-29-2011 04:20 PM

I know I am grateful...I thought about making her something but like someone said I don't want her to feel like she has to make me something....

Its one of those deals if someone sends you a Thank you note for your kindness or gift - do you send them a thank you note for their note?

I'm in fabric heaven although my silly DH said "well now you can stay out of JoAnn's for awhile"...Silly Husband!

Go to Michael's and get a load of what yarn sells for NOW. It is not at all cheap. Some of it will cost an arm and 3 toes to make a sweater now-a-days.

Thank your friend and tell her how much you love all your fabric.

Jennifer22206 01-29-2011 04:24 PM

you're lucky! Beautiful fabrics and I'm positive that your friend will love the yarn as much as you love the fabrics. Yarn isn't cheap either!!

Nanamoms 01-29-2011 04:36 PM

Aren't these kind of surprises wonderful. And it's not the value of the gift...it's the giving!!

Lady Tapioca 01-29-2011 04:41 PM

You have received something she couldn't use and she will receive something you couldn't use. You are both fortunate to have reconnected at the right time. If you can both make good use of the items, everybody wins! Enjoy!

jemma 01-29-2011 05:14 PM

what goes arround ----just enjoy---maybe somthing small like a knitting bag in fabrics she will remember

hperttula123 01-29-2011 05:59 PM

That is such a great trade!!!

Karen K. 01-29-2011 06:10 PM

Make your friend a small lap quilt. She will think you are GREAT.

lovingmama 01-29-2011 06:38 PM

You are a blessing to each other!

clair 01-29-2011 07:54 PM

awsome!!!!! I' send her the yarn and call my florest and send her flowers . 30 times 8.00 thats a really nice gift. Wish I had a friend like that ,to bad all my friends are quilters or don't even own a sewing machine. your a lucky gal.

sewwhat85 01-29-2011 09:05 PM

lucky girl

tinliz 01-30-2011 04:48 AM

I second the idea to make her a lap quilt. I bet she already has plans to knit you something. Will she be having any new grands. You have a lot of neat fabs for baby quilts. Bet she will love to see what you make from the stash, just as we will.

chance 01-30-2011 04:54 AM

I agree with everyone above. If you still feel a "little off" about this trade, maybe you could make her a little quilt, tablerunner or the like from some of that material and send it to her.

bjchad 01-30-2011 05:00 AM

Wow. How nice that you could both share with each other.

cazann 01-30-2011 05:02 AM

Aww, what a kind friend you have, bless her heart, perhaps if you don't think what you are sending her is worthy you could make her a little something with some of the material as a thank you,
Saying that, I'm green with envy.
Enjoy all the material with the love it was sent with,

Scrap Happy 01-30-2011 05:09 AM

Wow you ended up with awesome fabric. You both cleaned up so to speak. I'm sure your friend will be happy with the yarn you sent. You could always make her a quilt or table runners, or a wall hanging or something if you feel you must recipricate. But if you don't I'm sure she'll be happy knowing that what was collecting space in her home is now being put to good use and she has some useful yarn to boot! :-D

MDMPanther 01-30-2011 05:20 AM

I bet she will be just as honored and overwhelmed with your gift to her....it's in the medium she likes to work in and it's from your heart as well...therein lies the worth!!

drdolly 01-30-2011 05:21 AM

that's what friends are for. Yarn to you is like fabric to her. Enjoy!
