My first quilt was a king sized and I tied it with embroidery floss. DM tied a quilt with satin ribbon and tied little bows with the ends and glued them down with seam sealer. It is so cute!

I used to deal in antique quilts and the ones that were tied with yarn wound up with little fuzzballs as the yarn became matted over time. Also, large holes will damage the top.

I've only tied one quilt and that was because I used Chenille and my machine hated it!!! So I used different colored embroidery floss. It was really cute.

My mom and I always tie and always use yarn. Use baby yarn for baby quilts. double knot. My 32 year old niece asked my mom to finally but a new back on a quilt mom made when she was a baby. We always make them at least WOF X a yard and a half.
We have never had a problem or even a tie come out and the quilts are used. I got mad at my son for using a special one mom had given him. He informed me he was honoring mom by using it!! I KNOW he is right.
We have a frame like thing dad made to stretch it on. We tie at least every 6 inches as fits the pattern. We use polyester batting from Oklee Quilt company. We once threw a piece in the wash with no outside or tieing. Through sever washes it never even changed shape. It works for us

As far as flyers from Joann's go....I was told that their flyers arrive at the local post offices up to 3 mos before they are to be delivered and sometimes it takes that long for your name to be on one that arrives. Mine have finally started coming in.

It took me 3 years and about 5 signups before I finally started getting the Joann's fliers and emails. Just keep after it.

I use pearl cotton.

I used perle cotton when I tied my quilts, it doesn't unravel like yarn does. It holds up great to washing too.

Me too! I also use a large dollmaking needle, which let me do a whole row by clipping.
