I always tie with yarn because that is what I have lots of.

I learned a long time ago to tie with 2 thin strings of wool yarn - it doesn't come undone and if one breaks you still have the other and it makes a cool knot.

What is a biscuit quilt?

I like using embroidery thread; normally I use the varigated one with the same color scheme as my quilt.

wE USE EMBROIDERY THREAD BUT THE OLD OBES WE HAVE FROM MY SOUSES GRANDMOTHER WERE TIED WITH YARN

I used to tie with yard, then went to embroidery thread, then went to crochet thread. I especially tie when I am giving a quilt to a man, graduation gift, some baby quilts, quilts for camping, quilts that I know will be washed alot and maybe not taken care of - I have some sons and nephews that I have found out are rough on quilts.

i've gone back to yarn or floss. i tried ribbon for the "pretty" factor, but it tends to come untied unless you aggressively knot it-and then it's not so "pretty".

Please help me with tying a quilt with ribbon. What do I do how do I sew it? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I am using very thin ribbon. Thanks

This is what I have used, but I've not done it on something that would get used and washed frequently.

I used an upholstery needle to tie with. A curved one. Worked great!

I'm not sure that I understand your question, but here goes:

To tie a quilt with any ribbon will require a needle with a very large eye. The side you want the ends to show on will be up. Put your needle down through the quilt, then up again less then 1/2" away, then down again through the first hole, then up again. Cut the two ends to the length you want, then tie them. This thread describes the surgeon's knot, which I have not used before, but sounds great.

If you want the look of ties with ribbon but not to actually tie with ribbon, you can sew the ribbon pieces to the quilt securely by hand or machine, then tie the ends as you wish.

Hope this helps.
