Well it's 10:30pm and time to stop for the night. I kind of got side tracked after dinner, did get all the measurements for the green lap quilt. But ended up sewing the leftover pieces from a Cathedral window that I recovered into a small wall hanging. So I did get some sewing done, and will have a small wall hanging to send with the quilt.

Here is the recovered quilt.

This is the original piece.

I will be back at the sewing after church in the morning.

Welcome to Virtual Quilt Weekend. Please come and go as is convenient for you over the course of the next 3 days. Let us know what you plan to work on and show us pictures of your progress. After I return from grocery shopping in the morning, my plan is to work on a couple twin quilt tops. I hope to have the tops complete by the end of the weekend. One is in progress already. They are Christmas presents and all presents must be ready to transport to NYS by October 16.

Hope we all accomplish a lot this weekend.

Heather

I finished the 3 dresses for the orphanages & now got back to my UFOs. My daughter & I tried to get the pics on, but the options that are given do not show, so we couldn't show you the pics.

Such fun! I posted my "Grin and Bear It" changing mat under Pics. Hope everyone is getting some sewing time in!

Hi from UK. Working on quilting hunters star making a block to try out pattern, also making an apron and finishing hand blocks.. Only only one pic. So far?

I love seeing all the lovely pics of what everyone is working on. I temporarily abandoned "Afternoon Delight" for the snowball quilt on the MSQC's latest video. I made mine smaller. At first I didn't like it as the snowballs are so large, but it's growing on me. I'll finish sewing the rows together and get it bordered after church. Then I'll go back to "Afternoon Delight" and hopefully get it pieced today.

Oh, I really like that block. Did you paper piece or use traditional piecing methods? I noticed Quilters Cache has both methods.

The Frosty panels are from fabric that was intended to make a fabric book, but wanted to convert into a throw instead, but it is one story page short, lol! Anyone have any ideas what I could make to put in this square? Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance :D

Love the block, very intricate. I may be doing this block during the winter. Great job.

Perfect place for the label, maybe with an embroidered snowman, or a picture of you, the quilt maker.

Good morning everyone. Well, I have the vacuum run and the kitchen floor mopped. One of our QB members (JDeery) and her DH are coming over at lunchtime and bringing lunch, and picking up a quilt I quilted for her on my longarm. It is for her DS for Christmas. She will bind it. While talking to her on the phone they passed a "black sewing machine" alone the side of the road. I told them to turn around and go look at it. So they did. It is in a cabinet and the people wanted $5 for it. I told them to snap that puppy up and I would pay them when they get here. I will even give DH a tip for being so nice and getting it for me. Now I will have 4 old Singers. Two of them I use all the time for piecing. I have my mother's old machine, but no room to open it up where I have it.

May not get much sewing done today, but will try to get the star block quilt sandwiched and ready for quilting.

grann of 6 09-29-2013 05:24 AM

Forgot to say how much I like everyone's work so far. One of these days I will try a hunter's star.

Murphy1 09-29-2013 06:01 AM

Sunday already? I have my quilt binding pinned and ready for the hand sewing. I was distracted yesterday as I rented a carpet shampoo machine and spent the afternoon cleaning carpets downstairs. I had walked for an hour before that, so today my feet are killing me. Going to clean the carpets upstairs and THEN put together the blocks for a quilt I am making for hubby. I will post pictures of both at the end of the day.

Quercus Rubra 09-29-2013 06:39 AM

Well 1st thing I went with my friend and we went to Crossroads in Reed City to show support to both the owners who both have different cancers. She made a purchase and I got to see all the panels and new fabrics, fondling them as I went. We stopped a the little bakery for a sweet treat before heading home. I found out some sad news which kind of threw me off my game as you could image. I listlessly wandered from stenciling on two projects, ironing and redwork. But it was enough to say I accommplished something. Today, I'm going pick a project and stick with it. l don't know which one yet... but I'll think about it over breakfast.

One goal done

Finished one of my goals for this weekend, putting a border on my latest scrappy. Here it is - barn raising using all 2 1/2 inch squares instead of log cabin blocks, very simple and easy.

I than you but it is not me but Janet Leigh a member on this site you want to PM. It was a fascinating way.

Tink's Mom 09-29-2013 07:53 AM

I got side tracked yesterday by lots of garage sales...this is probably the last really nice weekend to hold one this year....and many took advantage of it. Found a good amount of stuff...plus someone was trying to sell homedec samples for quilting squares. I told her that the finish (polished cotton) didn't work well with other cottons, besides she wanted way too much money for such a small bag.
Finished my niece's quilt top this morning and have it sandwiched...will take a picture llater on today.

I'm keeping going very well at present. Just done one more block for the Deck-ade the Halls quilt. Just mugs to go. I got behind You all know the problems.

frustratedquilter40 09-29-2013 08:53 AM

Well I have been joining it but it seems I should have been working on other things: I have done the following as far as sewing goes:
1. Worked on Mystery Quilt #9 "Tranquility" step # 3 on Friday did a few but not all.
2. Made a fabric box from the tutorial that "frenchfryqueen" had posted in Christmas fabric. http://www.quiltingboard.com/links-r...s-t230949.html
3. Working on "You got mail" that Jenny Doan had posted a few weeks ago mine is in Christmas fabrics. Have half the blocks sewn together and am now thinking that will be one huge quilt with 42 blocks that are 12" finished!! And since no one has a queen size bed in this house, I have decided since I have 2 daughters may break it up into 2 quilts and put the other lone block on the back and use it as the label and put the info in the background HST area.

No pics yet will post them later as hubby and youngest want to go somewhere all I want to do is sew :o

Raggiemom 09-29-2013 09:30 AM

Well, I have the Toy Story quilt top done. I'll post a picture later. I'm taking a baseball break for a few minutes then will head back up and start piecing the Irish Chain blocks. Sounds like a lot of work is getting done for everyone.

retiredteacher09 09-29-2013 09:39 AM

I finished tying a baby quilt yesterday for a local charity group. Today I will work on finishing a baby quilt done in the rail fence pattern. I can't decide if I want to tie it or stitch-in-the- ditch. I did a pillowcase turn on it so no binding for it.

Then I hope to get started on a tote bag for Sadie's Dream for a Cure. It will be my first one.

The plan for today was to get the fmq done on a lap sized memory quilt. But then reality set in and all I got was a handful of problems. First was tension issues....rip....changed the bobbin case...better. Next was skipping stitches....rip....changed the needle....better. Next was thread breaking....rip....slowed down....better. I decided that maybe I should take a break before starting on the next block....don't think starting again in the current frame of mind is a good idea.....LOLOL. I will get back to it today, I swear....have too many other projects that have to be finished.

seamstome 09-29-2013 10:23 AM

My flying geese and I are having fun. I am actually making pillow shams for my Bali Wedding Star. Not nearly as exciting as completing a quilt but a UFO none the less. Since I have never made one, I thought I could just whip them out but I will get one done this weekend and another cut and ready to go. Problem is that I did not plan to do these so I had to spend a couple hours scavenging through scraps to find enough fabric. But that is over now. Enjoying the time to myself.

Quilter7x 09-29-2013 10:41 AM

Finished one little table topper, have another small one to do and a bigger one. I really like how this came out.

So pretty!!!

novicequiltergrandma 09-29-2013 10:48 AM

Unfortunately, I've been sidetracked because I broke my sewing machine last night and hubby got called in to work early so couldn't even take a look. Guess I'll go clean up my sewing area and see what I can get done without my machine.

Marcia_PA 09-29-2013 10:49 AM

I love seeing what everyone is working on. Of course, your projects give me ideas for future projects!

Yesterday afternoon, I made some concord grape preserves. Does anyone remember when Welch's had grape preserves with the skins in it? I miss it, so made a few jars from grapes I bought :)

I have trimmed both quilts, made my binding and sewed it to the back of my sister-in-law's quilt. I will sew the binding down (I do this by machine--sorry, quilt police!) after I take a tea break. Probably won't get my brother-in-law's binding sewn on today but definitely before Thursday.

novicequiltergrandma 09-29-2013 10:49 AM

LOVE everyone's pictures. Beautiful work.

Quilter7x 09-29-2013 11:18 AM

Love your pinks Prlumtree! They really all playing nicely together. Are you keeping this for yourself? I love pink, so I would definitely be keeping that for myself! LOL

Nessie, glad you like the table topper. It's more pink than the orange the lighting makes it out to be.

jmbaker3051 09-29-2013 11:25 AM

Thanx for the great ideas for the empty frosty square...now youns got my creative juices flowing...I don't do much embroidery but I can manage a little applique so maybe a snowman or snowflake, maybe a pieced snowflake or snowman block....has anyone seen any patterns for either of these???

Lazy Girl Runaround Bag

yesterday I made the Runaround bag. I added an interior pocket so that everything wouldn't end up at the bottom of the bag. I also found a smaller release clip at Joanns to use in the strap.

This one is done--just needs two sides of the label sewn down, then washed and dried. I made the label on my Janome 6600. It doesn't have the best alphabet embroidery, but it's sufficient, I guess. I'm done sewing for this weekend--time to read the Sunday paper. :)

Wishing everyone a good day.

Drawstring Lunch Bucket Tote

1 Attachment(s)
Found this tote at ayumills.blogspot.com (pink penguin). Great little tote - EASY to do! This was a test for the one I want to make for a Christmas gift. I have a variety of fabrics all set to use and think I'll make the next one just a little wider.
If you check out ayumills.blogspot.com you can see the flickr site of the totes made. Also google, bing etc the Drawstring Lunch Bucket Tote to see the variety that have been made.

I was thinking this, too. What about a large black snowman hat with white patch on the center with all the info printed on it or embroidered on it?

grann of 6 09-29-2013 12:09 PM

Wow! Everyone has been so productive! Today went bust in a hurry. JDeery and her DH came to pick up a quilt I quilted for them, and brought me an old sewing machine they found at the side of the road. It is a Singer with the matte black finish, first one of those for me. The serial # tag has been removed or fallen off, so not sure how I am going to date it. I'll check with Lostn51 and see what he thinks. The cabinet has 2 leaves that open on either side of the cabinet. Can't wait to see if it actually works. It doesn't have a foot pedal, but has a knee pedal, and part of it seems to be missing, so not sure if I can get it to run. Don't think I will get any more sewing done today.

AngeliaNR 09-29-2013 01:10 PM

I used up all my energy on Thursday, Friday, and yesterday. Vegging out today! Congrats to all on the accomplishments! :)

Quilter7 I have a few baby quilts to get out and both know they are having girls so that is first one and feeling so ambitious I started the second which will be a sheep quilt. Sheep is chenille and I will stitch her down with swirls in the body and I guess a zig zag stitch around her legs and head.

Sorry if color is off picture is from my phone.
