Virtual Quilt Weekend has begun!

While I realize it's only Thursday night here in the US, I wanted to make sure I included our overseas friends so I'm starting this thread a little early. I think I'm about to lose the internet for the night so...

Welcome to Virtual Quilt Weekend. Please come and go as is convenient for you over the course of the next 3 days. Let us know what you plan to work on and show us pictures of your progress. After I return from grocery shopping in the morning, my plan is to work on a couple twin quilt tops. I hope to have the tops complete by the end of the weekend. One is in progress already. They are Christmas presents and all presents must be ready to transport to NYS by October 16.

Hope we all accomplish a lot this weekend.

Heather

I will be joining. My ruffler gizmo just arrived in the mail so I will be learning how to use it and make little Christmas things with it at first. Then, I will be starting on some 18" doll skirts, DGDs' skirts and other things that need ruffles. Maybe the outside border of a few doll quilts. Just have to get my crockpot lasagna going and I will be starting to sew.... Can't wait!

luana 09-26-2013 03:57 PM

I will be working on the "Sample This" quilt tomorrow. Four of us started this quilt at the same time, and we sew almost every Friday at our local library.

Marcia_PA 09-26-2013 05:04 PM

I will be working on two large-ish lap quilts for my husband's brother and sister-in-law who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in early October. They need to be done by next Thursday. Machine quilting the second one on my Janome 6600 now (straight stitching only!), then binding both by machine. Hoping to be done with them by Sunday.

gramajo 09-26-2013 05:27 PM

I just found this thread, but I guess I've joined in. I started piecing a Blackhawks quilt for DD and SIL for Christmas this morning. I'll be able to get a little bit done before work tomorrow, maybe some Sat. and after work on Sun. I just moved and I'm hoping BIL or SIL will be able to come over Sat. to hang shelves, hooks for lights--in other words someone to drill and screw things in for me. Until that's done, I can't get much more unpacking done. So of course I have to quilt :D.

jmbaker3051 09-26-2013 05:42 PM

Hi there, this is my first time trying to post a reply...would love to join youns for the virtual quilting weekend. Got a good start today getting in the Christmas mood by making a Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer fabric book, I'll be working on a couple Christmas throws the rest of the weekend.

franc36 09-26-2013 05:48 PM

I'll be joining at noon tomorrow. I'll either work on piecing or doing some FMQ.i'm excited about quilting all weekend. Thanks for planning this event.

happylab 09-26-2013 05:54 PM

I will be going on a 2 day retreat. I plan to start a mystery quilt, make a small Halloween wall hanging, practice FMQ and finish 2-3 projects, then learn to make a few small projects. Not sure how many projects I will actually complete. I will sign in in a few days.

Tiggersmom 09-26-2013 05:56 PM

What a wonderful idea!

I will make me accountable to someone other than myself. Before I can start a project I have to finish cleaning up my room and load a couple of big sister/little sister quilts on my LA.......I've been putting them off and don't really have an excuse but I dreaded picking up my mess. After that, if I can, I need to make some table runners and placemats.

Off to get busy and thanks for the bee in my bonnet.

Belfrybat 09-26-2013 06:03 PM

I started tonight, not realising the virtual retreat had also started. Right now I'm working on a jelly roll race using odds and ends of batiks I had. At a recent quilting retreat, a person bought a Accuquilt cutter with a 2.5" template. I was able to cut the equivilent of about 5 batik jelly rolls. I"ll post a pic when I'm further along, but I'm sewing two batiks strips alternating with one black marble strip. Since these batiks are not colour coordinated like the jelly rolls you purchase, I thought using the black would make it more interesting. At least I hope so.

I've also cut out two other quilts I'm hoping to make. My aim is to have three flimsies completely pieced this weekend.

I will be doing hand work all weekend. My guilds quilt show is this weekend. Here are the quilts I'll be entering into the show. Hope to bring home a winner.

AngeliaNR 09-26-2013 06:47 PM

Just finished cutting over 450 7" squares (plus assorted 3" & 2" strips) for D9Ps. Sorting them tomorrow, and maybe I'll get started piecing. I have a new 1/4" foot I want to try out.

Cybrarian 09-26-2013 06:56 PM

Joining in also. Thankfully my school's Varsity football game is away so I'll watch them on live stream and quilt. Finishing a Fall Tabletopper for us and cutting out 2 purses for DDIL. Have to have them done before we head to their place in Savannah in a couple of weeks. Sewing, sewing, sewing!

petthefabric 09-26-2013 08:10 PM

Here on the Daylight Savings Time, most people are finished when I get home from Church on Sunday. So I can start tonight! Yipee! Pictures are awesome. I'll be working on class samples and finishing a bag started in embroidery club. ?I think that's everything in progress? Oh yeah, I've got some napkins to embroider for Thanksgiving.

Yesterday I saw a very cute idea for a decoration. It fits on a wine bottle, around the neck and on the cork. Think I'll try a turkey. Looks like I could go on & on. Better get busy.

BETTY62 09-26-2013 08:50 PM

Good Luck to each of you and happy sewing!

Greeter Eva 09-26-2013 09:25 PM

My quilting group was asked to make pillow case dresses for an orphanage in south America, so I have 3 more dresses to finish before monday , so that's what I will be doing. When I finish them, I will applique my jelly roll quilt & maybe work on some other UFOs. The dresses we are making are mostly from our stash, cuz we don't have that many pillow cases. So far we have well over a hundred done & we're putting a pair of panties with each one. So anyway that's my goal this weekend.

DOTTYMO 09-26-2013 10:16 PM

I'm off to my quilt class shortly. Just collecting all me necessary bits and bobs. See you all this evening with pictures of the days work. Hahahha.

novicequiltergrandma 09-26-2013 11:28 PM

I'll be working on two charity quilts I must have done by next week. If I finish that, I also have 2 little banners to applique and then need to finish 2 UFO's (twin size). I'll post pics in the morning.

fabric lover 09-27-2013 01:08 AM

Great quilts and book in the pictures. I'll be working on a huge pillowcase (pillow is 1.40 m [4,5? ft] long:-)), a table topper (rows are done, now joining them and think of a border), cut some more applique for an old Bunny Hill BOM and hopefuly cut hexagons. But first I've gotta go to market for fruit and vegatables and supermarket for the rest of the groceries. After that: a whole weekendof sewing, yesssss!.
Be back asap.

Plumtree 09-27-2013 02:01 AM

I have a baby quilt in pinks that I need to get started on--would like to finish the top this weekend. I have all the fabrics pulled just need to iron them and start cutting. :-)

ontheriver 09-27-2013 05:44 AM

I'd love to join in. I am going to finish up the borders on my latest scrappy, hopefully get it on the frame and ready to quilt. Then I am going to put together more of the blocks on my paper piecing stained glass scrappy. I have a couple of wallhanging that need the quilting finished. Also trying to decide on next project. So many things to do. Will break tonight to go to DGS's football game then back at it in the morning.

I'm in! I'm going to be quilting one of my UFOs (of course!) which is a Jacob's Ladder made of Thimbleberries charms from one of Pat Speth's Nickel Quilt books.

Murphy1 09-27-2013 06:00 AM

I have two projects I will work on this weekend, starting today - Friday. I am sewing on the binding for a Christmas in July One Block Wonder quilt that I can't wait to finish and wash. I will post it here on Sunday. I also have completed the blocks for a quilt for my husband that he fell in love with a similar one at a quilt show in Cameron Park. I will put the blocks together, but then I need to decide on a border fabric. It is all Stonehenge fabric. will post the top without the border as well. Look forward to seeing everyone's progress. It is a gorgeous day, I love the fall. Will have the doors, windows all open. Have a great weekend.

DOTTYMO 09-27-2013 06:47 AM

I'm back had one of thos days at class. Cut a 13/4 inch strip mine was 3/4 inch. The whole day was like that. Spent most of the day between my sewing helping a newbie who does it her way. I am determined to finish these blocks before I sleep tonight.

Yummmmm, loooooooove those fabrics!

gramquilter2 09-27-2013 07:49 AM

I am going to be working on a Christmas Bargello Quilt-As-You-Go table runner (Dec La Table is the pattern). I just finished sewing the 2 1/2" strips together and will start cutting them now. I am using Batik fabric reds, greens, and black.

Pat625 09-27-2013 07:49 AM

I haven't had the opportunity to work on anything since3 DCF dropped 6 of the grandbabies off a month ago! I have demanded some ME time from the rest of the family here..With COPD, chasing these kids is exhausting. There are 2 days that I can let someone else chase them this weekend- so I am IN. I want to start cutting repro civil war fabrics for a ;one star quilt for my DD in Texas. A simplelife- I love your quilt!

acd3213 09-27-2013 07:58 AM

I will be participating. I just got a new Pfaff last weekend, but I have been sewing on her all week already. Before work and after work. Working on a curved pieced quilt. Just finished the last 40 squares this morning. 292 total. Going to put up a design wall tomorrow to look at all these squares and get it all sewn together.

Dedemac 09-27-2013 08:25 AM

My sewing room is mostly reassembled after being a guest room for two weeks. If I can find the additional fabric today I will be working on a lap quilt that is a bunch of orphan blocks. I ran out of a really dark black and can't remember which store I purchased it from. If I can't find it I will be quilting a table topper and sashing some blocks for a second lap quilt.

Plumtree 09-27-2013 08:32 AM

I have 10 pink ft. qtrs. ironed and cut now to put them together I have one done only 29 more to go. It will be a big baby quilt but one that will grow with her. I love your Jacobs Ladder :-)

Raggiemom 09-27-2013 09:13 AM

Sounds like everyone is off to a great start. I've started sewing strips together for the Irish Chain quilt now that I'm back from grocery shopping and everything is put away. I'm not sure how long I'll feel like working today. I've had a nasty head cold all week and just starting to feel better today. I don't know if I dare cut fabric for the next quilt or not today with my head still a little foggy :)

Will check back in later to see how progress is going.

Blocks and sashing ready. Now need to cut batting and backing for QAYG. Then quilt the baby quilt, which is glue basted and ready to go.

Kitsie 09-27-2013 11:19 AM

Joining more rows of my Dear Jane (hand quilting & QAYGing). Cross hatching and over-stitching a King size one for my cousin. (into its 2nd year!) But then lucky me gets to do this EVERY day! Enjoy everyone!

maminstl 09-27-2013 11:24 AM

I just finished up a quilt last Monday, so started a new project - making the Swoon quilt with the Winter's Lane fabric. Going to be fabulous!

seamstome 09-27-2013 11:32 AM

No no not yet....I still have to work for three hours!

Plumtree 09-27-2013 12:21 PM

I love Swoon, I made one in pink and planning a black/white and grey one :-)

Tink's Mom 09-27-2013 12:24 PM

I just finished my first flimsy. Still need to trim and press, but at least it's pieced. I think I would have been happier with it if I'd done 3 rows of batik to one row of black blender. Will try that for my next one.

I'll be working on a quilt for a wedding and several block exchanges. But I need to take my sewing machine apart and see how to fix it first.
