Okay, finally finished a decent dish towel and did one more design to add to a birthday present due next week. I thought that little leprechaun would be the death of me. Sixteen color changes and I think it took me about 1.5 hours to get one done. I sure learned a lot about my new embroidery machine today and what not to do. hehehehe

That leprechaun is darling! As well as the bee...

Here is my final finish of the day. I finished piecing this 16-patch lap quilt. Someone gave me tons of strips and a lot of these were in there... Trying to redeem the scrap strips! That's it for today. Tonight after church I will be working on a scarf I'm knitting. No more quilting tonight.

LOTS of Scrappy things going on this weekend...and i'm no different it seems. My cast finally comes off on Thursday, so being right handed i have been VERY restricted in what i can do....but got out the roll of register tape and one of my scrap bags and started stitching. Have 26 strips x about 16" long thus far. (of course they need trimmed but have to wait til i can use my rotary cutter again - after hand therapy) Thanks for sharing all your pictures - as always, they offer so much inspiration. Can't sew tomorrow - am watching the grand-daughters as they are out of school - can't wait to check back in to see what all you've done. Stay safe and warm!!

PenniF---this is new to me....you sew patches of fabric on to register tape...and then do what with them?

PenniF 02-15-2015 09:04 PM

Hi grmamrtha1....the register tape keeps the strips from going wonky - as they would i'm sure if i tried to simply sew these bits together without it. Once done you can cut them to size and alternate with solids to make perhaps a rail fence quilt...or sew them into longer strips and alternate with a solid or white strip to make a simple scrappy quilt....or around a center solid square...whatever you like. If you Google - register tape scrap quilts - lots of other things come up, but there are more than a few of these types of quilts. Some have been pictured here on the QB in the past.

Love seeing everyone's projects! I've been working on this for about a month, I'm not as prolific as many of you. It's a scrappy irish chain top made with men's shirts and the light contrast is yardage I purchased for this project. I'm so accustom to seeing light squares and the dark nine patches that it's difficult for me to see the light patches as the chain. It's easier to see in pictures though. This will work well for the person that I'm gifting it to, so I'm happy with the outcome.

I really like that scrappy Irish chain, very manly looking. I got sidetracked yesterday with various distractions and didn't get much sewing done. Today I am determined to get the backing ready for sandwiching on the long arm. I seem to spend almost as much time on the backings as I do the fronts. Will try to get some pics posted later.

Everyone is getting lots done this weekend. And I love everything you all have done. I don't do appliqué any more, did way too much of that on my kids clothes way back when there was no such thing as fusible backing. Also made enough wedding gowns to satisfy my interest in hand beading and any other handwork.
