I just bought a Brother PE 770. Haven't had time to take it out of the box yet. I was just wondering what everyone embroiders? I need ideas. :)

Everything I can find! I just did bar towels for a gift. T shirts, sweatshirts, quilt blocks doilies, anything I can find when I first got my machine I was eying up hubbys underwear!

amma 12-16-2010 03:02 PM

You can embroider on clothes, towels, aprons, socks, hats, totes, etc...
You can make free standing appliques and sew/glue them on, rather than embroider them onto the items.
Free standing lace is fun, as well as in the hoop projects.

http://www.emblibrary.com check out their tutorial and project sections, they have a lot of tips/hints there too. A great informational site :D:D:D

I have alot of t-shirts,denim shirts, heavy weight cotton mens shirts.I have a friend who does beautiful embroidery on those mens cotton shirts.

mpspeedy 12-16-2010 03:32 PM

I am a well endowed lady. I have embroidered the chests of most of my plain shirts and T-shirts. I then use a decorative stitch using varigated thread with the same colors to trim the neckline a little. I get more compliments and all I am doing is covering up food or even makeup stains I just can't seem to avoid. I made curtains for my kitchen using cotton napkins that I embroidered with tea cups and saucers that matched the motifs in my decor. I am just finishing 14 small wallhangings for members of my family that share the same last name and celtic heritage. Each of them has 4 celtic designs and the letters of our common last name embroidered on them. I will try and post a photo. Over the years I have made quilt blocks, for at least three quilts and just recently I embroidered the names to go under 250 house blocks in a quilt for my congregation's 250th anniversary. When my daughter was in high school one of her school clubs, envolved with saving the enviroinment did a fund raiser by selling canvas lunch sacks that I embroidered with various wild animals. etc. etc. I have actually worn out some of my hoops etc.

luv2so 12-17-2010 03:14 AM

I personally embroider everything! I know ladies that have even embroidered toilet tissue, I've never done that though.

Right now I'm making freestanding lace bell ornaments and candle cozies for Christmas gifts. Last year I made embroidered bell ringers for my grandchildren to give their teachers for Christmas. This year they'll be getting the candle cozie and bell ornament.
There's tons of sights with free designs. OESD, Dakota, GN, all the major companies. Then there's Ann The Gran, there's tons of freebies on her site.

I love embroidery on quilts. Whenever you make a block with a large empty square, there's an opportunity for embroidery. I've made quite a few of them. I love embroidery on towels, nieces and nephews get these for Christmas. I watch for them to go on sale, I have a stash of towels for when I need them. They are also great hostess gifts for parties! This year I embroidered coasters for nieces and nephews, just love it. Table runners, place mats. I made pillow cases for the great nieces and nephews, and embroidered their names on the pilllow cases. The possibilities are endless. You will have so much fun with it!!

I do everything too. I love quilting with the embroidery machine. It is fun to edit designs so you can use just parts of them. Here is a quilt I made for my DGD for Christmas using an old design that I just used the outline part for the quilt design. I hope I posted the right one.

The edges of pillow cases, cotton and linen dinner napkins, linen hand towels, kitched dish towels, shirts, jeans (open the inseam, and do repeats down the outside seam).....there is no end to what you can do......Check out the web site "All About Blanks", where they have many items available for embroidery...........get together with a couple of friends so your order is large enough to avoid shipping and HAVE FUN!!!

LindaR 12-17-2010 06:03 AM

I love "in the hoop" designs...have done alot of scissor holders, change purses, needle holders and of course all the usual things

sandpat 12-17-2010 06:15 AM

I just finished a bunch of in-the-hoop tissue holders from Embroidery Library for gifts. I do towels, aprons, shirts, designs on little girl's dresses, quilt designs, both for the block and the quilting design. You'll have SOOOO much fun!

quiltingaz 12-17-2010 06:54 AM

I just did an apron for our chili cook-off this weekend. My husband will be the only guy there with a personal apron.

weezie 12-17-2010 07:41 AM

I only like to use them on quilts and, occasionally, for sweatshirt embellishment. Unfortunately???, I have a gazillion really great designs and to make all the theme quilts that I want to make, I'll have to live to be about 150 years old, maintaining physical & mental health until the last breath. I have some fabulous Christmas season designs, but as the Christmas season at our house only lasts about 4 hours, I can't decide what to make.

All the above but what I love to embroider the most is I love to incorporate the machine embroidery into my quilting. I am just finishing up the borders of my horse themed quilt for myself. I have done other quilts with embroidery too. I just love it!!

Joeysnana 12-17-2010 08:29 AM

My mind is reeling. You girls are so clever!! I just unpacked my machine. Baby steps for me. :) I have saved some PES designs onto my computer. Do I need to download WinZip to open them or will my embroidery machine unzip them? Help!!

jlm5419 12-17-2010 08:39 AM

If they re zipped files, they will need to be unzipped before your embroidery machine will recognize them. I use WinRAR as my unzip program because it has more features than WinZip.

Like the other replies you have received, I have embroidered just about everything I can get my hands on, from a clock face to a handbag to a bulletin board cover. Oh, clothes too, and quilts.

EVERYTHING. When I see a blank area I start to think about what would look good there. I have done my best friend's pasors stole. I love to use it to quilt and make quilt blocks. Be sure to check out Embroidery Library, Oregan Patchworks, Embroidery Billboard, there are probably millions of designs out there. I have even bought designs on ebay. Have fun!!

honeydew 12-17-2010 11:16 AM

Try threadart.com or metroemb.com

gramquilter2 12-17-2010 01:06 PM

I too, embroider anything that doesn't run away! Most of my quilts have lots of embroidery on them. You can find quite a few designers that have the disc to make the quilt blocks: Smith Street Designs, Bright Ideas Design Co.,Sarah Vedeler Designs, The Stitch Connection are some that I have used. But really you can look at an embroidery design and come up with a plan on how can I use this in a quilt.
embroidery.com and embroiderylibrary.com have some nice designs and offer free designs every month. Have fun with your new machine.

grannypat7925 12-17-2010 01:10 PM

I just finished 50 shirts with business logo for my nephew. I have done many things including quilt blocks for an alphabet quilt for my gr-granddaughter.

davis2se 12-17-2010 03:33 PM

I just did monogramming on 12 linen napkins and a large tablecloth for my daughter for Christmas. That is the first large scale project for me since I bought my machine this summer (I am ashamed to say). But I'll be leaving the working world in the next couple of months, and then I'm gonna give 'er hell!!!!

janetter 12-17-2010 03:37 PM

OH LUCKY YOU! I had a PE150 that worked like a charm for years still does, but only does a 4X4 area. You will love it!!! I have collected many designs and love using the redwork designs for "Quilting". Oh the gifts you can give HAVE FUN and Congrats on your new adventure If you are ever curoius enough just PM me i know tons of sites for designs and gifts to emb on. Had a very small business in NJ but it was SOOO much fun.

janetter 12-17-2010 03:42 PM

HaHa I did that once as a joke for a friend. Used water soluble stabilizer. So much fun to add to the basket she got.

Corry, Your Quilt is just awesome. My daughter has her own horse. And I found some winter horse themed material....Now I have a better idea of how to use it. Thanks for the inspiration. lol

Tweety2911 12-17-2010 03:51 PM

I also embroider my quilt labels as well as towels, t-shirts, tote bags. Have yet gotten to bookmarks.

Joeysnana 12-17-2010 04:12 PM

I got brave and opened the box of my new machine tonight. I embroidered 2 designs that came with my machine. It was awesome!! I love it. guess I will brave the cold tomorrow and buy a flash drive. I am so worried I won't be able to get the designs I have downloaded off the computer, onto the flash drive, and then into the embroidery machine. zipped vs. unzipped has me confused.
