I bought myself a cheap dry iron with no safety features whatsoever. I was tired of getting hard water marks or other problems with my Rowenta steam iron which also never seemed to get hot enough. This one has a totally flat sole plate that can be easily cleaned if it needs it. I got mine from the Vermont Country Store online, but they can probably be found elsewhere.

The same for me. I bought a Rowena a few years ago and it wasn't any better that the $35 irons. After a few months it quit getting as hot as it should, and from day 1 it dribbled water. Right now I'm using a Sunbeam and like it, except for that annoying auto shut off, but I figure it's saving me a little electricity and it heats back up really FAST when I need it. When it wears out, I won't feel bad about tossing it and getting a new one.

I have Rowenta I love it, my daughter ironed her blouse here one day, and loved it too, so that is what she received for here birthday that year...

I tried the Olisso. It was too heavy for me. Darn, because I was going to purchase one.

So I stick to my less expensive Black & Decker, though I do have a Maytag cordless for doing that last ironing of tops and backs before they go on my HQ.

Rowenta! hands down one of the best out there, I wait til spring and go to big lots you can get em for like $35.00 or so.

Well, there seems to be a love/hate thing going on with the Rowenta irons. Don't know about that one. not too many like Oliso. Guess I'll wait for more answers. I don't think using an iron one time at a motel or friend's house gives a very good idea of how it works. I really would love to hear from those who use the same one for years, like I do on almost a daily basis. Maybe they don't make them like that anymore. I found the cheaper ones don't steam like I want or get hot enough. So let me hear from you, please!! Really value your information since you are the end users and know what you want for quilting/sewing/regular ironing. Thanks so much! ps checking on the naomoto hsy-58. will let you know what I find on that one. Also, going to look at reviews about the Rowenta from amazon or online somewhere.

Love my Reliable. You can turn off the auto shut off if you want, and lots of steam instantly. When you shut off the steam it seems to stop in an instant too. It is a bit heavier than some, maybe mid weight if heavier iron is an issue.

I love love love my Reliable 100. Well worth the $$$

Black and Decker classic. It gets hot and does steam but we don't use steam so I can't evaluate that. It is our second one but we iron every day and our iron gets dropped all the time. We go through a lot of irons and this one gets the hottest of any we have had. Good weight for me. My husband likes it too.

I have an Oliso and very pleased with it.
