Brother CS600i

I also have a singer 401a and an older Sears Kenmore I need to do more with  LOL

My favorite machine to piece with is my Bernette 80. I also do some FMQ'ing with it. I have an old Kenmore, but don't use it much anymore. I purchased a vintage Singer 66 which is now apart and being cleaned. Because the bed it larger, I am hoping I can use it for FMQ or leave it set up for piecing. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I piece with my Janome and FMQ with my Bernina 160 QE. Love both of my machines! The Janome hums to me and my Bernina whispers.

reginalovesfabric 07-14-2010 06:28 AM

my featherweight

Gramma 07-14-2010 06:30 AM

I use a Brother CS6000i But for some reason the hand wheel has become hard to turn. Have been using it & bingo! But do like it.

I sew with a singer quilting machine. It cost $300.00 on sale at Joann fabric. It was marked down $100.00. So far, so good. I love it. Haven't tried FMQ yet but I will on the wall hanging I'm working on. That is if I ever get the time to finish piecing it together. lol

Minda 07-14-2010 06:42 AM

Bernina 820 (stay-at-home machine)
Bernina Anniversary Edition (workshop & retreat machine)
Bernina Activa 230 (workshop machine)
Janome 6500 (stay-at-home machine)
Singer Featherweight (anywhere machine)

darleneerickson 07-14-2010 06:49 AM

don't forget that the Pfaff has a build in walking foot and the Viking machines do not - I piece on a Pfaff 2144 because of the build in walking foot feature. I have a VikingSE which I mainly use for machine embroidery.

Bernina 440 QE and Featherweight

grann of 6 07-14-2010 07:09 AM

I use whichever machine I walk to. I have Husqvarna/Vikings, Designer I (my workhorse), Designer SE, Topaz, and Diamond. I use the Diamond to embroider & quilt on the machine, which I am currently doing. I also have a White treadle, the Singer I learned to sew on in the 40's, and several other old ones.

Julie Baird 07-14-2010 07:37 AM

My Viking D1...absolutely love the machine for both piecing and machine quilting. It's got a nifty little thing that keeps track of how long the needle was going up and down while I was quilting...but it doesn't count the latte and potty breaks...

patsyo56721 07-14-2010 07:52 AM

I use Baby Lock Elure Plus

Melinda in Tulsa 07-14-2010 08:02 AM

Pfaff 7570 is my main machine and a Kenmore 385.1915 for back-up and classes.

MsSewer 07-14-2010 08:03 AM

I use a Kenmore (over 25 years old) to do all my piecing on and Husqvarna for embroidery

A fancy, schmancy Bernina 830 for my piecing and embroidery-I got this one in March. A Janome 9000 for my back-up, that I got 11 years ago, that now sits in the closet. And my newest arrival is solemnly looking at me, wanting me to get her up and running, a Morse 4500.

Tristan 07-14-2010 08:35 AM

Just curious - how do you like your HQ Avante? I am considering getting one in the future, but have not been able to get any reviews since it is so new on the market. Thanks.

Husqvarna/Viking 630

When I was little I learned to sew, and used until I was an older teen, my Mom's Singer, from probably the 1960 or so. It was a work horse, i just figured that's how they were made. Then I got a Singer, used it a lot. About 1990 or so I was having problems with it and the guy told me I just wore it out, there were a lot of plastic parts that showed too much wear. So I asked around, looking for something that didn't have plastic in it and got, and still use, the Husvarna/Viking 630. It's funny, my husband uses a Husvarna chain saw! I've bought various feet for it over the years and take it in for cleaning every year or so. So far, it's working. My Mom's still using her Singer

My main machine is a Husqvarna/Viking #1.... pre embroidery module so no + with it. <G>
Also have a Rose that I got to be able to do embroidery but it has become my backup/travel machine and the embroidery unit sits at home.
DH brought home a Singe 66 in a table that I need to find room to set up and use some.
Have 2 sergers (a HuskyLock and a White) that I have pieced on, and often use to trim the edges before binding.
And then there is the Tin Lizzie that still hasn't been set up......and needs to be.<G>

Soon I will have to replace my #1 because it is wearing out and parts are getting real scarce. sigh. Looking at the Sapphire and at the Janome 6600 or Horizon. decisions decisions...... <G> Need to check out the Pfaffs, don't think I can afford a Bernina.

Hi everyone i have two Brother sewing machines one is the project runaway and the other one is an embroidery one with mickey mouse built in then i bought a couple more of their cards and a PED for the computer.also have a Juki for machine quilting and then i have an old singer model 202 which is the machine i first learned to sew on at my grandmas. Also have an old treadle sewing machine so far just for looks but plan to overhaul it next winter and get it up and running. Have a great day mkay

kapatt 07-14-2010 09:08 AM

For quilting I use the Viking Mega Quilter

For piecing I use my Singer 401 or 403 (it depends on which room I'm sewing in).

I'm also using my 15-91 treadle machine for piecing a log cabin quilt together.

AmyM 07-14-2010 09:12 AM

I use a Husqvarna Diamond for piecing and a Brother NX600 as my backup. For the quilting I have a Gammill Optimum with the Statler Stitcher.

mygirl66 07-14-2010 09:14 AM

I have a floor sample Brother, 25 years old, only 13 stiches, but I wouldnt trade it for a brand new one, I love her! I do all my quilting by hand.

Mornigstar 07-14-2010 09:15 AM

Now a Brother Innovis 1500D , also have mom.s FW that I learnt on in 1950. Had few other thru the yrs but if I had problems it was usually "human error" not machines fault

Sewslow 07-14-2010 09:18 AM

Janome MC4800

Mornigstar 07-14-2010 09:19 AM

Forgot to mention that while camping I always had the Singer
"GENIE" because it fit under the seat. Used a diaper bag packed with notions.

Debbie B 07-14-2010 09:25 AM

I have an old Singer 5525 and have used it to piece, but now it's in my closet. Mainly, I use my Brother XR9000 to piece and to quilt. It has the free motion quilting feature that I use with the darning/FMQ foot and straight lines with the walking foot. I rarely use all its decorative stitches. Sure am dreaming of a mid arm to long arm sewing machine!

Debbie B 07-14-2010 09:27 AM

What a pretty machine...love that color!

I just upgraded to a Husqvarna Topaz 30. I had a Husvarna Viking and loved it. However my DH upgraded my computer to Microsoft 7 which the Viking is not compatible with. The Viking is up for sale on Ebay if anyone in interested.

laralea 07-14-2010 09:35 AM

Viking 1100 (needs servicing) Bernina 1130 and Brother Innovis-40 when I want to work downstairs because the Bernina is tooooo heavy to carry up and down steep stairs.

Mornigstar 07-14-2010 09:36 AM

Billie, saw all the treadles --while at a friends party last week I commented on a treadle bottom that he had outside. He said he was going to scrap it and I told him to keep it for a while longer. I hate to see those go to scrap. Later I saw some parts are missing but I am trying to rescue it --not for me.

lesfowler 07-14-2010 09:43 AM

Viking Designer Diamond, Viking Rose and Viking 960. The Diamond is new - just got her 2 weeks ago - a present to myself. Rose is going to my daughter. 960 is my traveler - easier to and from classes. 2 Singers in the barn storage - retired. Miss Diamond is my primary sewing, quilting and embroidery machine now. She can do all. I am totally spoiled now.

Debbie B 07-14-2010 09:46 AM

You are a very lucky girl!

I love my Bernina 730E...I piece and quilt using her. I sure wish I could afford a longarm...sigh

BettyM 07-14-2010 09:48 AM

I have a Viking Rose and Innova 26 longarm.

Djohnson 07-14-2010 09:48 AM

I use a Phaff Quilt Expression 4.0 and I love it. It threads itself, cuts the thread, lowers the presser foot when you stop if you pause it raises the foot a smidgen so you can Adjust the the fabric. It also has a beautiful quilt stitch. It has a built in even feed and a nice free motion apparatus
