I have the Bernina 830 that I use all the time now but do have the Bernina 200E to take for a class.
I have an old Euro Pro, that I purchased just to make some valances and for mending. I was hand quilting at the time. Now that I'm machine quilting, I find the throat opening far to small....only 5" x5". It does great straight stitches, but I am looking for a machine with a much larger opening so I can free hand quilt. Any suggestions.

An Husqvarna Designer SE Limited Edition, a Baby Lock Espire and a Brother CS5000 for classes. Except for the Brother, all the rest, including my Huskylock 936 serger, have been discontinued right after I bought them. I'm afraid to even look at another machine to purchase because I'm sure it'll be on the chopping block too!

When you are looking for a new machine ask your dealer how long it has been on the market. That is a good indicator on when the manufacturer will "retire" that particular model. We are proof that most machines NEVER permanently retire they just go to assisted living enviroments.
lab fairy, I love the "assisted living environments" you describe for the out-of-production machines. All the machines I have are great and I love them. To trade them in or sell them would be out of the question. I use the SE and Baby for my quilting because they are both wonderful. The trouble with buying brand new just released, blah, blah, sewing machines is, like anything else, there's bound to be bugs and whatnot that have to be fixed. I guess I just like the tried and true.

Janome MC6600P I purchased a couple of months ago, I am a novice and this machine is great...piecing is getting better and better.
I use my Pfaff 2170. Love it, also have Pfaff 2046. Love that one too
Janome 11000 for piecing and quilting.
I use a Janome6600P. I have had it for years and it is a dream to sew/quilt on. I have it in a Quilter's Dream cabinet.
I do try to sew EVERY day. I retired 2 years ago and still feel as if I am playing hookey! Subee in Indiana http://www.subeesews.blogspot.com |
Were you at the Quilters' College in Indianapolis in March of this year??? I was there!

Baby Lock Ellure - I piece and do simple quilting. I send out the larger items to be quilted.
I lovemy singer but if I had money I'd buy a Phaff.
I use a Singer 201 for piecing, and the 201 and 401 for for quilting, I have about 14 featherweights and mostly they just sit.
I use my Janome Memorycraft 6600 for all my FMQ and most of my piecing. I also have a Janome Gem Gold 2 that I use for piecing, especially if I am piecing somewhere other than my home. I love both of my Janome's! :)
I use a Brother Innovis-10A. I haven't had it very long, but I love it so far - it does everything I need.
Having a Brother dealer/repairer a few streets away from me is a definite plus for it too! |
I piece with a Pfaff 1471 (about 20 years old or so and Pfaff's first computerized machine) I love it!!!!! It even has built in walking foot, needle down and programmable stitches!
I quilt with a Pfaff Grand Quilter. It only has a straight stitch and a 9" throat which is nice for quilting. I've had it a few years. Dani |
I have a Janome New Home for piecing and a Baby Lock Quilter's Choice Professional for quilting
I piece with my bablock audrey and my sapphire 870. I also have a nelco that I paid $7 for at a thrift store and I use that on occasion as well.
The pattern for the quilt in your picture is FABULOUS. Where can I find it? Thanx- [email protected]

J.C. Penney's, 40 years old
I use my Viking/Emerald
I use a Janome 11000 for piecing; I use a Janome 1600P and a New Home (also Janome) MC6000 for quilting.
Babylock Espire for almost everything; although, I have not yet tried FMQ, mostly SID and hand quilting.
I use a Bernina 440QE for piecing and general sewing. I LOVE this machine. I also use this machine for quilting small wall hangings. I use a Viking Mega Quilter and frame for quilting larger items. When I have a class or project I take my 15-year old Pfaff 7550 which works beautifully.

I use a Pfaff and love it ... didn't know folks had and used more than one machine at a time until I joined the Board ... when I bought my Pfaff, I gave a new Singer to a newly wed who wanted to learn to sew ... she has since made curtains for her new home and taught her sister to sew ... it is like "pay it forward."

Janome 6600 - Use it for everything.

I use the Janome 4016 E (no longer made) and the Baby Lock Ellure
I piece with my babylock quilters choice and just got the new babylock symphony and love it, also have babylock evolution serger I go straight piecing on. I have the babylock jewel to do the quilting.
The others I use now and again are the Babylock elegante, 2 old singers for heavy piecing. Love all my machines just need more hands to use them...lol Sue |
I have only one machine. It's used to quilt and sew everything. Sears Kenmore Elite 19005. Love my machine.
Bernina 150 and a Featherweight. Take the featherweight to classes where there is piecing involved. Bernina when there is anything zig zag. Love both machines.

Brother CS600i I also have a singer 401a and an older Sears Kenmore I need to do more with  LOL When I do a quicky for kids or something like that, I use my Memory Craft 4000. Its all I need and more. Hand quilting rules at my house. Sure is hard to find anymore. :( Its sad but I understand how progress changes our lives. Not mine. Here is a bit of work. |
Bernina 1530. Bought it years ago before I started quilting.

Brother CS600i I also have a singer 401a and an older Sears Kenmore I need to do more with  LOL and Bernina 1031. For machine quilting I use either the Pfaff 1222E or most often a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875(nearly 10" throat). Sharon W. |
A Janome 6500P for piecing (until next week - trading it in on the Horizon 7700 by Janome). I also use my Viking Designer SE for some piecing, but mostly for FMQ and embroidery. I plan to use the 7700 for more FMQ; can hardly wait to bring her home! I have a Viking Rose for classes.
