I love that umbrella fabric. Did you buy it on line? Do you have a link so I can find it?

eimay 08-27-2011 04:59 AM

I love your husband's idea. Look on line at free printable coloring sheets. You may find what you want. Then applique it onto the umbrella fabric.

happyjan 08-27-2011 05:17 AM

I love this idea too

I've used iron on vinyl for picnic table covers and mats with great success.

You print something onto fabric? That must be something I don't have the equipment for...

heather1949 08-27-2011 05:25 AM

Yep a tote bag

ljptexas 08-27-2011 05:30 AM

I think it would be cute by cutting large squares along with solids.

I just made a purse using the vinyl on the bottom pieces, so I can just wipe it clean when it gets dirty. Worked beautifully.

All you need is the special fabric from Jo-Ann's or LQS (or make your own-but a lot more involved) and an inkjet printer.

hoppa 08-27-2011 06:17 AM

love that fabric

joysewer 08-27-2011 06:28 AM

I think a tote bag to use on a rainy day would be great!!

brendadawg 08-27-2011 06:41 AM

How about a "picnic quilt". Even though it's rain and umbrellas, it's such a cheery fabric. I like the idea of a tote bag, or backpack.

babygirl8 08-27-2011 06:42 AM

Makes me think of the Morton Salt Girl...

My DH says make a picture quilt with an insert of a boy stomping in a puddle, but I don't know how to do that. Ideas?

Look thru some coloring books and you'll find a kid in a puddle. Do a simple applique!

I, too, like your hubby's idea! Great fabric!

patdesign 08-27-2011 06:46 AM

would make a neat kaleidoscope block!

ghquilter53 08-27-2011 06:58 AM

I like this idea too. Or make little umbrella tote bags.

wisconsin 08-27-2011 07:00 AM

a bow tuck bag

Minnisewta 08-27-2011 07:09 AM

I have friends that have made little purses with the iron on stuff. It turned out very cute.

KarenR 08-27-2011 07:11 AM

I love it!!

Hancock's you said. Where is there a Hancock's fabrics? Gotta go look it up.

0tis 08-27-2011 07:21 AM

That's me with the umbrella all wadded up and backwards....

Ladybug 1938 08-27-2011 07:22 AM

Tote bag, purse, I just can't cut it small table topper...

LindaDeeter 08-27-2011 07:23 AM

Adorable fabric ... can you coordinate some narrow borders and make a lap-quilt? I don't think I'd want to cut it up.

RDM 08-27-2011 07:27 AM

Adorable fabric. Wonderful bright colors. Lots of possibilities here. I'd search quilts in the gallery for ideas, then books, or on-line. I can see it as focus fabric in a snowball block with alternating nine-patches in those bright colors or...We do Ronald McDonald quilts and bright is always great for those.

Anna O 08-27-2011 07:51 AM

Add four fabrics (3/4 yard each) to bring out the colors you want (I'd make one of them a black/white). Make a Take 5 quilt.

crafterrn1 08-27-2011 07:53 AM

Okay so here goes. A flip flop applique(steam a seam is easy) quilt. A beach cabana pieced quilt. A Disappearing 9 patch. A tote bag as focus print. A small table runner use in the blocks and the outer border. Placemats. Crib size quilt with lots of brights. I could keep going! Luann in CT awaiting Irene

Wunder-Mar 08-27-2011 08:11 AM

So many of the suggestions cut up the fabric to the point where you miss the oomph and attraction of this fabric altogether (IMHO).

Something like Atkinson Design's SLIDE SHOW pattern came to mind - ise the umbrella fabric for the large squares and all kinds of complementary fabrics for the smaller squares. Here's the pattern weblink: http://www.atkinsondesigns.com/patte...?productID=138 .

charlotte37830 08-27-2011 08:20 AM

What about making a tote bag with your husband's idea af the little boy on the front. I think that would be adoreable. I would love to have a tote like that. I would also use black polks dot fabric for the lining.

 Cute fabric,, make a tote.. then if any left make a table runner for your picnic table..

catsnchina 08-27-2011 08:41 AM

A stack and whack quilt (depending on the length of the pattern repeat).

littlenell7777 08-27-2011 08:57 AM

Hey, great idea from your DH. Go to Clip Art and see if they have a picture of a boy.

MargeD 08-27-2011 09:46 AM

It's great fabric, but I would probably make a tote bag or use it for backing on a small quilt, so I wouldn't have to cut it up.

BettyGee 08-27-2011 09:46 AM

I like your DH's idea. A panel of a little child surrounded by this fun fabric. I can sure see why you were drawn to it, the colors are fantastic.

I just finished a quilt made of umbrella BOM by my guild. Here are some pics. The blocks were a variety of sizes so I had to add different sized sashings and then I alternated the rows and added the gals, then to make it fit, cut some of the gals in half, then added the rain drops. Fun!

Almost done with the top

Finished! The quilting looks like splashes
