My local group and I are doing a round robin. Should be fun since every one will pick something different. You may want to sign up on here for one of those.

Thank you ladies. I was trying to find something for a class and wanted to do something different. Civil War is a good idea and I already have one made from the Barbara Brackman book. I was searching Block Base and found lots of blocks to be made with scraps to form a new look. I will still look around and see.

I always check out Jenny Doan's YouTube shows. She always has new blocks and also has new ways of doing old blocks. Also on YouTube I found a new and great way of making flying geese that actually turn out great. Go to YouTube and in the search engine type in: Flying geese with one seam. It's really changed how my quilts look. And a man is the person who is showing how to do this. I think that is so cool.

I have been seeing alot about the book and patterns "Sylvia's Wedding Sampler" There are numerous web sites about it and lots of pictures of the quilts being made, several groups have been formed, sharing tips and some exchanging blocks. It is a world wide thing, with groups in France and Germany and many other countries. There are 140 patterns in the book. A few of my friends and myself have bought the book (Amazon) and are making it. The patterns are beautiful, Im making mine in pastels. Pinks, lav, soft greens, yellow, aqua and blue.
I did see that quilt a couple years ago and found the blocks in Block Base. I am not good with many little blocks lol. I tried Dear Jane and The Farmer's Wife and ended up only making 15 from each and incooperating then into two other quits with other odd blocks from my collection. I did post the quilts on here some time ago. |
I have noticed, even in the most recent American Quilter from AQS, that scrap quilts are getting a lot of attention. I can only assume it's due the backlash from rising cotton fabric prices and the quilters's need to use stash more often.

Another block that comes to mind is the double fan ( Bock Base) many colorful scraps can be used with a white background like the old quilts.

There is a new instructor each month with a tutorial to help us refine our machine quilting skills Last I looked there are at least 700 quilters involved. Fun!! I set a goal this year of improving my FMQ techniques and this will be wonderful! Of course, I'm scared right off the bat with feathers being the second month's technique - couldn't they have done that later in the year???? SHEESH!!! Well, here I go!!! |
Just about everything posted at Modern quilt guild makes my heart race. But, I think I'm one of those "Younger quilters" mentioned a few posts back. I love bright colors, lots of contrast, and some negative space in a quilt.
