I am hooked on civil war but lately have been excited over the "100 Day od Modern Quilts". Different ideas.

I think that some popular quilting designs are regional. I make table toppers or runners when I want to try a new block. Then if I really like it I can do a bigger quilt later. For example I did one turkey tracks block - never again. It went into a Thanksgiving quilt for my mom.
I personally like making stack and whack fan quilts. So much fun for me. Right now I am trying to concentrate on UFO's and my scrap stash. I have also been having fun with a quilting design I came up with. So far I have made 8 and they are all different. Depends on where you do different cuts and arrangement of blocks. I'm not really crazy about sampler quilts. |

Just about everything posted at Modern quilt guild makes my heart race. But, I think I'm one of those "Younger quilters" mentioned a few posts back. I love bright colors, lots of contrast, and some negative space in a quilt.

I've been doing contained crazy squares lately and then putting them in vests. Eventually, when I find time, I will do a quilt using the crazy squares.

We have been talking about scrap quilts lately. I just started a spiderweb quilt with my scraps....a lot of fun and easy.

Just my personal comment .. its seems like verything old is "new" again , from civil war, scrappies , string foundations, crazy quilts. Some done in real scraps, period fabrics, others in new fabrics. But a the most common thread to most is the use of more fabrics in a single quilt... Lots and lots of colors/shades , print variety etc.
I think in tough times people want colors in their lives ! If you look at the reproduction fabrics of the depression area , they were quite colorful for the time. |

I always check out Jenny Doan's YouTube shows. She always has new blocks and also has new ways of doing old blocks. Also on YouTube I found a new and great way of making flying geese that actually turn out great. Go to YouTube and in the search engine type in: Flying geese with one seam. It's really changed how my quilts look. And a man is the person who is showing how to do this. I think that is so cool.
