What is the Web's latest Quilting Craze?
I know in the past it has been Dear Jane, The Farmer's Wife, Stack and Wack, OBW and etc. I was just wondering, wanting to start something new and different. On anoter note, is there something you always wanted to make?

I don't know, but I'm definitely up for something different! I really want to do an artsy quilt, but washable for a bed. I love the art quilts, but I'm more practical and like all my quilts to be loved & used. Can't wait to hear everyones great ideas!

I think Civil War quilt patterns are very popular now. I've noticed a lot of Civil War BOM and quilt kits are in most shops.

I am doing the 2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge. There is a new instructor each month with a tutorial to help us refine our machine quilting skills Last I looked there are at least 700 quilters involved. Fun!! There is a link on my blog in the left hand column. I am enjoying seeing everyone's practice blocks!

Hi Rosy! The QB is doing a Pony Club sew along now similar to the FWS.
I see a lot of "liberated" quilting showing up especially in the younger crowd. Guess you are no stranger to that genre. I think the Civil War influence will remain strong until "end" of the CW commemorations. Upcycling fabrics is also "new". The winter issue of "Quilt Trends" http://www.fabrictrends.com/issues/latestissue.shtml I notice the color choices of the younger quilters--they favor the retro European fabric designs over the repro American influences. Just my 2 cents. |
The Swoon blocks are very trendy -- not really hard, but they look complicated, and depending on fabric choices and placement, you get some interesting variations.

I'm kind of the opposite. I avoid whatever the latest craze is. I get sick of seeing the same quilt over and over.

I have been seeing alot about the book and patterns "Sylvia's Wedding Sampler" There are numerous web sites about it and lots of pictures of the quilts being made, several groups have been formed, sharing tips and some exchanging blocks. It is a world wide thing, with groups in France and Germany and many other countries. There are 140 patterns in the book. A few of my friends and myself have bought the book (Amazon) and are making it. The patterns are beautiful, Im making mine in pastels. Pinks, lav, soft greens, yellow, aqua and blue.

I love Civil War and hope it stays around for a long time.I think scrap quilts from our stashes due to the economy is very popular right now.I am trying to use my stash of which I have a lot,that I was able to acquire when I worked and my DH and I traveled.Now that he is gone and I am retired I have to watch what I spend.I still only buy my fabric from QS.I am not going to spend a long time on a quilt to have it fall apart in a few years.Also good quality thread is important.I have seen people spend $8.00 plus a yard and then sew it with a .50 cent spool of thread.I check sales a lot.

I dont keep up with trends. But I love this topic, I have got to get my act together and do some of these suggestions!
