What would you buy first???
 

If you had your choice of one item to add to you quilting/sewing room with an unlimited budget, what would it be?? Also, what is the one thing you have right now you could not live without??

oh, I'd love a long arm quilting machine...if money, and space were no object :)

Olfa cutting mat - as large as possible. I have the 35" x 70". Smaller would work for most things, but I am a seamstress and use mine as a table cover.

Simple answer for what I can't do without-----------sewing machine.

What would I like? A room full of elves to sew what I design!

I would buy a cutting mat and a rotary cutter and a ruler. I assume if I wanted to buy anything quilting related that I would already have a machine and thread.

Built-in base cabinets with a nice counter top for sewing on 2 walls. Upper cabinets with glass doors for storage. Third wall built-in open shelving.

I can live without any of it, but could not quilt without at least one sewing machine.

An addition to my house so I could set up a dedicated sewing room. What was my sewing room is now my dog's room/guest room. I do have shelves/storage in there, but have my machine/cutting mats/ironing board in the dining room. It's a good thing I live alone & don't entertain much. It's always a mess.

Could not live without: my iron.
Would like to have: something to help me with colour choices- maybe it would be a super-duper scanner-cum-projector that could capture images of the fabrics I want to use and arrange them as I liked and project them full size on a design wall? I know you can do something like that with a computer, but I dont have a computer in my sewing room.

Easy to list what I could not do without, my large conference table completely covered with a cutting mat.

What would I add? more fabric? LOL

I would like more space all to myself. i couldnt live with out my machines.

I have a dedicated space for my sewing room, and I have lots of storage. I would love to have a iron that does not sprew or leak all over my ironing board, and I could not do without my cutting mat.

A Horn sewing table with all kinds of places to store sewing stuff and have well to set my machine in.

Wow, that's tough, if money and space were no object, I think I would like a machine with more throat so maybe I could learn to fm. I could not do without my rotary cutter and mat. This one make me think...hmmm

I'd buy a mid-arm machine and frame. What I can't live without is my sewing machine. I have withdrawal when it goes in for a check up LOL

A folding cabinet that my Janome 6600 would set down into. The number one thing I wouldn't quilt without is my rotary cutter. Even with all the scissors!

Hmmm that's a loaded question.....ok - unlimited budget.....I would have a live-in LAQ. What I couldn't live without is somewhat harder because there are so many things. I guess it would be my rotary cutter.

Unlimited budget? A new house with no stairs so that sewing room & living space are on the same level.
Can't do without my Martelli rotary cutter.

Someone on the Quilting Board has this saying and I love it:

"I do not understand how anyone can live without one small piece of enchantment to turn to." That is what I would like. I do have a miniature version of it, but could a little more of the one small piece. Edie

If I could buy anything it would be a lovely sturdy cutting table, can I have a 2nd choice too please as that would be some Shape Cut templates, really fancy some of those :o

After basic needle and thread, the only thing I wouldn't want to be without is my patterns, I collect craft patterns and love them.

I would gut my current sewing room (formerly a large guest room) and design it with a larger fold out cutting surface, roll up design wall like a projector screen, & more overhead lighting. I all ready have a mid-arm & frame and the room is big but things just aren't laid out in an optimal design. I move it around but due to the lack of lighting & electrical outlets in certain areas and closet doors all along 1 wall, it just doesn't work like I want it to. I have to use extension cords & power strips to get power where I need it and I've got a big, honking corner desk that is now on my "get it outta here list". I would like my day job stuff back up stairs or in the garage but but hubby has his hobby stuff (and dust collecting exercise equipment in those areas).

I can't do without my stash or rulers. I even take projects on vacation with me. Drives hubby & the kids crazy when they have to make room in the vehicle for fabric, sewing machine, rulers, and a little cutting board. Hey, if the boy can take his X-box--I can take my stuff, too!

I agree with GrannieAnnie -- I love collecting the fabrics for a project, but getting it sewn is the hard part. I was just thinking the other day that it would be nice to have a couple of people to actually sew my projects together!!

I would have an addition added on to our house, so I could have my own sewing space. Right now I have my sewing space in the eat in area of our kitchen, thank goodness we never use the table to eat on : ) so I do not have to put stuff away, but, it would be nice to have my own space. Lots of shelves, for storage, and oh the list could go on and on. Sadly this is not likely to happen anytime soon, at least I do not foresee in my lifetime ! Maybe my next life : )

Good question. If I had an unlimited budget, then I would get a long arm. The thing I can't live without is my sewing machine.

I have everything I want in my quilting room. No wishes for items but I'd like to add French doors where I have plain double windows. We are planning on selling soon so no use in doing that but I would still love to have them. ;) The one item I can't live without for quilting (other then the basics) is my Go die cut machine.

I would love to have a sewing room instead of a sewing corner. I can't live without my sewing machine.

I could use more space, so I would ask for a separate room for my sewing studio. Right now I am sharing the master bedroom. I could also use a nice stereo for music, a laptop computer, a small color tv and a place for the cats to perch so they can watch Mom work.

I can't live without my sewing machines. They are the reason I sew. I don't really like to handsew unless it's for finishing.

A longarm machine.

1. A new sewing machine (a Bernina maybe). Mine is a workhorse, but 38 years old and very basic.

2. It would be hard to give up my rotary cutter, mat and rulers.

Let's see unlimited budget....bigger house with a dedicated sewing room, part time job (kept for benefits - you did say unlimited budget. lol) Can't live with out my sewing machines.

I would buy one of those big cutting/sewing tables that has the hydraulic lift, then I could get away with just one big table instead of two. Right now I have to take over two bedrooms, one for my big quilting cabinet and one for my big cutting table.

I could not get along without my Janome 6600.

i'd get a Tajima single head 15 needle emb machine with all the bells and whistles with a liftime supply of backings, toppings, thread and bobbins and designs.

That would be easy- a long arm machine.
