What is your most impressive but simplest quilt?

I'm looking for a quilt pattern for a wedding gift in May. This is our busy time of the year so it needs to be one I can do quickly. The colors I'm planning on using are kakahi, navy, and burgundy. I want this quilt to look like I spent forever making. Lol Is this too much to ask? HELP!!!! Thanks

"The Man Quilt." Although it works up great as a feminine quilt, too.

GrammieJan 02-24-2015 07:35 AM

I like the quick and easy pattern "double slice" using Rose Hill Lane by RJR fabrics. It is feminine and pretty. However the layer cake will only make a 54x63 size..perhaps use several borders to make larger? Or use 2 layer cakes? It is a true "patchwork look" but easy to accomplish. ........sorry, I just noticed you had mentioned colors you wanted to use.

DNP or Bargello. Looking at DNP and not knowing how to do it, it looks really complicated. With a simple bargello, people ask "How did you cut all those tiny squares and sew them back together in that pattern?" If you've done a bargello before, you might even be able to do one with a line of symmetry (mirror image).

Warm Wishes is the pattern I use when I want a knockout look with little effort. Here is one I made for the American Legion raffle. It's not quilted in this pic. The pattern is here: http://www.quiltmaker.com/content_do...DoubleSize.pdf The prints in the pattern pic is perfect for a wedding quilt.

When you limit yourself to just three fabric, I don't think think you can made a Bargello or a Colorsplash quilt (my avatar) which I have in the past won many awards. You might look into BQ2 by Maple Island quilt.

I do a double Irish Chain when I need a beautiful quilt in a limited amount of time.

Which pattern have you found the easiest to use? I want to make one.

I like the disappearing hour glass. I did one in about 2 1/2 days, quilted & bound & everything Here's the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXggafOP230
I am not successful with the way that Jenny does her HSTs which results in bias edges & don't purchase layer cakes so I cut my squares from yardage. Here's a handy dandy chart of different sizes:

If I really need something quick, I go with the single star:

3 fabrics and you can easily make this in an evening. Like after dinner.

Did you look at Rhonda's pieced block of the month for January? You can do the blocks whatever size you want and they are really easy to do. She shows a gorgeous finished design that looks very intricate but is just different placements of the colors of the same single unit. Don't know how to do link but you can find in the blocks of the month section.

This one is my 'go to' wedding quilt. I do it in neutrals, but it would look good in your colors too. The pattern is called Whispered Lace in the book titled Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis. All strip piecing, no triangles or anything complicated.

Trip Around the World can be strip pieced and you could use your three colors but just pick three or four fabrics of each color. There are tutorials on YouTube, and one of them is by Eleanor Burns.

A simple and pretty pattern is a 9P combined with a snowball patch. Use a stunning fabric for the center of the snowball and use accents for the rest. Also put it on point and you will get a bigger quilt for little work.
peace

Day and Night quilt is very nice. Jenny from Missouri Star has a tutorial for a VERY easy hounds tooth quilt using 2 colors, you could use the third color for a border.

I think this one is fast and easy and I did it as a quilt as you go.

Maggiemay 02-24-2015 05:55 PM

I think a chevron quilt would look good in the colors you are using.

Susann 02-24-2015 05:59 PM

I don't have a pic to post but a very simply quilt that has gotten raves is Radient by Daniela Stout. I did it in dark grey, yellow and white. Google it there are lots of pics. Beautiful!

Mine was Quilter's Cache - 12" block - Floating Stars. It looks totally optical illusion. And it is so simple!

I have made a couple of them now. Fun, too. Edie

My favorite easy quilt is my Anita's Arrowhead quilt. I made it in civil war fabrics. It was quite easy to make and the overall effect is stunning. (Now back to being humble...)

My favorite quick quilt is Sweet & Simple by Designs by Lavender Lime. http://www.lavenderlimeinspires.com/...e-sku-DLL1.htm
It takes 3 fabrics plus an inner border fabric. Very fast and it is a great pattern to show a beautiful fabric you don't want to cut it up into small pieces. Also great for neutrals and one accent color for a wedding quilt. I've made probably 15 of these because they are quick, simple, and beautiful.

Texas_Sue 02-25-2015 05:36 AM

Go to: http://www.quiltersdreamtx.com and under online store click on patterns. The Magic Trip around the World is actually easy and can be made in less than a week.

Thanks for this post - loved looking at everyone's favourites - Whispering Lace by Amy Ellis has gone on my list!

These Disappearing 9 Patch quilts are my 'go to' quickie wedding gift quilts! People seem to really like the pattern.

SooBDo 02-25-2015 08:33 AM

What about Totally Triangular? You only need four fabrics and if one is a large scale print this pattern highlights it. Very striking. It's not a big quilt, 57" x 73 1/2", but perhaps it could be expanded? Here's a link to the pattern. My picture didn't upload.

What about something that looks woven? With the right fabrics and quilting something pieced like this can really shine. You don't have to do appliqued mermaids like I did, just picture them as another fabric. :)

The blocks are 12 finished. I used two 3.5" strips on either side of a 6.5" strip.

MargeD 02-25-2015 09:10 AM

I agree with luvstoquilt, about making a double Irish chain. Mary Ellen Hopkins used to say that you take a simple pattern, but use WOW fabric to make a wonderful quilt. I heard her at a quilt seminar where she had her trunk show of quilts. The quilts had simple blocks, but great fabrics to make spectacular quilts.

Learner747 02-25-2015 10:20 AM

Surprisingly easy and most impressive is the One Block Wonder.

fangman 02-25-2015 10:40 AM

My favorite is Warm Wishes, as it looks different when using different fabrics.

Friday1961 02-25-2015 11:25 AM

Mine was the attic window quilt I made from chicken fabric. Not big, not difficult, but everyone who sees it comments on it, and I admit I think it's cute. I take no credit, really; it was the fabric.

Of course, this doesn't suit itself to a wedding quilt. Just my simplest but most impressive.

I'm with you. That is a beautiful quilt. And now that I've read the entire thread, I probably have to add Whispering Lace AND Totally Triangular to my bucket list. :D

Jacob's Ladder is an easy quilt but you would need some lights to coordinate with your colors.

Mariah 02-26-2015 06:57 AM

My favorite and didn't take much time is my 10-minute block. It has such a variety of colorful blocks, and I didn't spent much time on it. Good luck! Mariah
