My first sewing machine that I owned was a Singer Featherweight that Mom & Dad gave me Christmas 1972 when I was 12. I used it & my Mom's Singer 403 (which I now own) to sew all through jr & sr high school. Here's my FW almost 40 years later - still just purring along:

I learned on a treadle...sure wish I had it now..can remember when my Mother got the first electric...

Mine was a brother XL-3010, I was 13 when I got it, didn't start using it till about 18, it was limited stitching, and I quickly outgrew it, and gave it away and got the brother XL-3500i, love it, it will be my daughters when she gets older, and i will get a nicer brother with more features maybe the XR-9000, that one seems nice. Love my babylock espire though. Hardly use the XL-3500i now except for classes

I used my Mother's treadle singer when I was little. She eventually got a portable Phaff that I used during my teen years. My first machine was a protable Singer when I was 20. It was blue and I loved that machine. It sewed beautifully and helped me make some nice clothes for work. When my kids were little I bought another Singer with a few more bells and whistles than my original. It still sews well. However I decided to get a new machine about a year ago when I started thinking about quilting. It has many built in stiches and so far has been doing a good job on my sewing.

Mine personally was a Brother 900 model, had the free arm and I thought it was just awesome! I got this when I was 19 or so.
Growing up I sewd on one my Dad bought.. can't for the life of me remember the model.. but it was in a beautiful wooden sewing cabinet.

I learned to sew on my mother's black Kenmore. She bought it around 1940. It sat in a wood cabinet and had a knee control instead of a pedal. It was very heavy. It had made multiple sets of slipcovers and most of my clothes from birth to adult. I used to wish that I could have a store-bought dress.

My mother wanted me to learn to sew before I took Home Ec in 7th grade. I balked until the summer before the class. How glad I was that she persisted. I was the star of the class and the hard-nosed teacher seemed very relieved to have a student who actually knew what she was doing. I made a sleeveless dress with a drop waist and a sailor collar and got an "A"!

When I was on my own with money to spend, I purchased a
new Kenmore. What a disappointment! It was so cheaply made
that I stopped sewing for a good many years. Now I have two
Bernina's and will never give them up!

My parents bought me a yellow Imperial the year I turned 12. I wanted to go to summer camp and they didn't want me to go because it was too far away so they bribed me with the machine!
Then when I got married, my first Valentine's Day gift was a Singer 1425 that had a bobbin that wound in the machine... LOVED that feature. I still have that machine. I sew on a Janome 6500 now.

Didn't have my very own machine until after I was married. It was a Singer, don't remember the model. But I learned to sew on my Mom's 301.

My first very own machine was a machine that I purchased from Whites store. They carried about everything. It was around $99.00 and I purchased it in 1961, the year we got married. It came with the cabinet. I made payments on it for a year. Boy have times and machines changed.

Mine was a Sears and I was 12. Before that I sewed all my dolls clothes and little blankets by hand.
