My first was a Singer but I don't remember the model. I was about 20 or so and wanted to make dresses for my 1st daughter. And I did. I was a sewing fool for a few years and then didn't sew again that much until I decided I wanted to make quilts. That was about 2 years ago. Now I have a Singer C150 Furtura Emboridery/Sewing machine and I just love it!

I was 31. It was a Singer (because I thought that made it good) and it caused me nothing but trouble. I don't remember the model #, just that I bought it myself because my DH said I didn't need a Bernina since I didn't sew! Well, duh! I had no machine! He has since learned a lot and suprised me several years ago with a Bernina 640 with the embroidery module, walking foot and BSR. He's a keeper!

I learned on a Singer Treadle at 8 yrs old, but my own 1st machine was/is a White Rotary I paid $10.00 for at a flea market. I still have it & still works. Then in 1975, my MIL gave me hers..an old brother now about 35 yrs old. Still works but wiring brittle (scares me) so I bought my new Brother HS2000 & adore it!! I do wish the throat were bigger, but it is a workhorse to be sure!! Love it!

A Kenmore that is still in my ex-house 51 years later.

I have a Bernina440QE and a Featherweight and another Kenmore and a newish Singer but I want an old-old Foot pedal Singer.

My first sewing machine was a Singer touch and sew. It along with the cabinet was $66, in 1967, I was 12. My grandpa gave me $20 to put down on it and then I babysat to make the $6 a week payment, that was 12 hours of babysitting a week at 50¢ an hour. I got an A- on my dress that was made in Home Ec and that was what started me on sewing clothing. Both my grandmothers sewed. Then it skipped a generation and I got the gene. I now have Janome's but back then, a Singer was a well-built and designed machine. Nothing like the throwaways of today.

My first was a New Home 444. I bought it from a traveling salesman who came by when I was 14. I was babysitting and saving up my money for something, I just didn't know what. The machine I think was $100 and I paid $50 down and $10 per month. She is now mounted in my sewing room in a long counter top next to my Babylock Ellegante 2 and is my 'go to' work horse. When I was in highschool I took home ec. and while there they got new machines and new tables. I bought my sewing table / cabinet for $20 and I still have it too. The New Home was in the cabinet until a 2008 when I got back into sewing. It wasn't long before I converted a bedroom into a sewing room and now it sits all decked out with notions and a little lamp.

Mine was a brother don't remember the model. I was 24.I was a little late getting started. :roll:

My first was a very old treadle that my husband's mother no longer used and passed it on to me. A tornado had torn the roof off the house where they lived years earlier, and the cabinet had lots of water damage. Had to be very careful not to snag my fabric, but was very grateful to have it. I spent many hours treadling that machine. I later passed it on to a neighbor -- now I wish I'd kept it.

I forgot to say that my old treadle machine was a Singer.

I was about 10 and learned on my mother's Singer 401. My mom passed away nearly 3 years ago and that was one of my requests to have. My sisters agreed,and I cherish having it.
