What's Your Next Project

What's the next project in line for your quilting journey?

I have to embroider the quilt label for butterfly quilt. Then attach the binding. It has to be ready for the monthly show and tell next Monday. I promise pictures for you too.

Next, is quilting a Christmas panel ITH on the embroidery machine. It's a very ambitious project at 68x74.

What's under your needle?

Iceblossom 11-04-2019 02:47 PM

Well, my Bernina has decided it needs to go visit it's maker (or repairers) or something. So good thing I have my cheap portable Brother as well as my various vintage machines. I can say, I won't be doing any quilting on any of the available machines.

So I'm working on my "next" project now, started from helping draft a pattern for someone here on the board. I don't have a name for it, but I will have a picture in a day or two.

And then I have committed myself to the Bonnie Hunter Frolic Mystery quilt project.
https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...y-t307758.html

I'll be using a bag of home dyed fabrics I got at the thrift store for most of my fabrics, but I'm going to make a pretty bold departure by using bright yellow instead of neutral white/cream... and I'll have to dye up a couple pieces between now and Thanksgiving.

I do have a donation child's quilt to finish the hand part of the binding.

That's all the further planning I have!

As soon as I finish quilting two quilts, one is under the needle now, the next is waiting patiently in the wings, I want to do something mindless!

Tartan 11-04-2019 03:50 PM

Working on getting my comfort quilt quilted and ready to go.

busy fingers 11-04-2019 03:54 PM

Some smaller items this month. A tabletopper using the "international sisters block", some leaf potholders and a few potholders that look like Christmas gifts.

And of course there is always on going research for the next big project.

maryb119 11-04-2019 04:00 PM

I'm starting a Christmas tree skirt tomorrow for a Christmas gift. Then I will be making a raincoat for an American Girl Doll for my granddaughter. Then I plan to start a quilt that I have cut out.

Jingle 11-04-2019 04:08 PM

Making a second quilt top for our oldest Grandson. I have a RWB top for him. He is a 10 year veteran. Then I am going to quilt them and finish them up before I start baking for Thanksgiving.

QuiltnLady1 11-04-2019 04:11 PM

Need to finish a Christmas table topper I started a couple of years ago -- have to finish cleaning the sewing room first ...sigh

zozee 11-04-2019 04:15 PM

On Dec 6, I have a craft show. On Dec 7, I'll be resting up from it. On Dec 8, I plan to start our next grandchild's quilt! The baby is due Feb 28.

I've been sorting stuff and have a small pile of small UFO's. Today, I listed what I need to finish them, ie cut batting, backing, binding. I want to work on hand quilting 5 mini quilts during my TV watching time. At the machine I want to make a couple of small Thanksgiving items for guild rewards for finishing a large UFO. Need to have my sewing stuff all done by Thanksgiving so that takes priority over the big projects.

quiltingshorttimer 11-04-2019 08:59 PM

I always have several things going at same time--tomorrow I need to finish cutting and kitting the last part for our guild president's blocks; I need to get a friend's table runner quilted, start on the designs for her TV lap quilt, quilt my sis's place mats for Christmas; and finish (blocks done, just have to put together then quilt) my DD's Christmas quilt. I know it sounds like a lot, but just found out today that I will be jobless this week while pool (I teach water wellness) repaired--so have lots of time.

happylab 11-04-2019 08:59 PM

Start the BHMQ mystery starting November 29th, and continue to work on my 1.5” batik scrappy. I’m cheating on this, I’m using pellon quilter’s grid. I have 2 of them ironed, only 18 more to go. Plus finish 3-4 twin to lap size quilts to donate to charity or give away to family members.

MariaM 11-04-2019 09:57 PM

Finishing up two Christmas table runners for gifts. The first one is ready for binding and the second is ready to go under the needle and be quilted. After they are done I have too many projects that have yet to be started! The hard part is choosing which to start first.

Ariannaquilts 11-04-2019 10:03 PM

I'm making myself a new purse and putting together 2 quilts, one is a gift for my god daughter and the other is for my step daughter. Both are in different stages of completion but neither should take that long. As for the purse I chose the fabric and hardware, I've changed the pattern several times now so I need to make a decision!

Bobbinalong 11-05-2019 12:16 AM

Apart from all my UFOs? 8 Linus tops quilted and bound this week with a pile still to do. I want to pluck up courage to try a 'written' label on my Janome 8900 for the Linus quilt my 8yr old grandson has made. It;s a long time since I used the alphabet on my 4800 so I guess I need to open the 102 pages of instructions!

rryder 11-05-2019 01:26 AM

I need to bind the UFO that I finished quilting last week. Then I’ve got to get moving on DGD’s 21st birthday quilt- want to get it done by 11/24. Meanwhile I’m slowly making progress on the collaged orbs and arcs for the quilt I started in the Danny Amazonas workshop back in August. Also need to work on gifts for barn friends!

Rff1010 11-05-2019 02:03 AM

I have 3 (!) Quilts in the "just need binding" binding pile so of course I'm going to start a charity project for Habitat for Humanity and my church. We don't have a quilting group yet so I'm hoping to start one.

luvstoquilt 11-05-2019 03:57 AM

I plan to make “The Raven” and will start it in January. Until then I am making as many little quilts as I can. I have them all ready to cut and sew!

Nesie 11-05-2019 03:59 AM

We all sound the same! I too have a lot of things going at one time. Just finished embroidery on a friend vintage stockings. (She wanted to put names on them.) This was on my small 4x4 Brother! Thank goodness another friend in our group is an embroidery whiz. That was a challenge. Also finished another vintage stocking for someone that needed hand sewing. (Yes I know I need to say no but these are friends I really care about.)
Also finishing a table mat made with strips cut into 60° triangles.
That was great fun.
Quiltingshortimer enjoy your time off!

I'm having a mini quilt retreat for myself today. I am washing about 20 yards of red with 3 color catchers. Making a Christmas quilt using the Goose in the Pond block using reds and white. I bought the most gorgeous red Christmas fabric that will be perfect for this.

cashs_mom 11-05-2019 11:19 AM

If I ever get the quilt I'm making for my husband quilted and bound, I'll be starting something. When the rod came down in my closet in the sewing room, I have to remove all the yardage I had hanging there and discovered that I still have a ton of rayon batiks that I've never used. I bought a couple patterns at Quilt Festival and I may start one of those. I'm not really sure.

hobbykat1955 11-05-2019 01:33 PM

Just start today the pattern by Yoko Saito called Good Night. I'm also working on the tale end of a second Family History Quilt.

Claire123 11-05-2019 02:43 PM

I have so many going at once my head is swimming, so it's a little hard to say.
I think my next one or two will involve EPP.

juliasb 11-05-2019 04:22 PM

my next project it to work on the 2 UFO's . They both present great challenges that were unexpected. The plan is to tackle the problems by first choosing one to work on. Second start doing a lot of frog stitching. That alone will take days. These quilts much be done as they are both over due graduation gifts. So as soon as I finish this baby quilt the journey is on!

My next project is to quilt the baby quilt I made for my new granddaughter due Jan 16th. I gave her the top for the baby shower a couple weeks ago, my daughter quilts and understands lol :)

ClairVoyantQuilter 11-05-2019 05:16 PM

I’m working on a quilt that has a mix of hand appliqué, New York Beauties and a number of blocks with 1” HSTs. Fortunately, there’s only a few of each type so it doesn’t become monotonous. I’m totally stumped on how I’m going to quilt it though. *♀️

Conchalea 11-05-2019 06:46 PM

I've cut most of my Stonehenge Solstice fabric for my next quilt. I'm ready to start piecing Star of the Show. It will be queen-size. I love the fabric!

Kassaundra 11-05-2019 08:08 PM

I have a quilt that is mostly finished from a boom swap or two ago that I need to complete. I also have a little girls quilt (also from previous boom blocks) I need to make. And was mulling over in my head an idea for a top (shirt) quilted made from repeat cut hexies.

I am busy designing a new bargello quilt on EQ8. What a learning curve! I am doing it in sections and will divide it into more manageable blocks.

I have 10 UFOs that I'm pecking away at, but I will squeeze in a couple of Lexi bags by Lazy Girl Designs in the next couple of weeks, I hope.

I have 2 quilts to prep for binding, and make the binding. They may go to my friend who binds many of my quilts. I quilt her quilts so it is a perfect exchange. I also have 4 of my own quilts to quilt on the longarm. I have a quilt I am currently making that has several hundred snowball corners, not very exciting. I am now wondering why I thought I would enjoy making it. I also have several holiday lap quilts that I have kitted up. So lots to choose from. Our family doesn't exchange gifts anymore so the holiday stress is off.

Karamarie 11-06-2019 04:35 AM

I'm cleaning up leftover pieces from previous quilts, trying to use them somehow. Ran across blocks from 18 years ago that my daughter had made. She got pregnant with the 1st of 4 kids so the blocks have sat in my sewing room. Her oldest daughter is 15 and has done some quilting. My plan is to help her put the blocks together and give it to her Mom for Xmas. Also want to put together a few kid's quilts for Santa's Helpers. We just got our first snow of a couple of inches so good time to spend in my sewing room. I seem to have gotten my mojo back so want to take advantage of that.

lindaschipper 11-06-2019 05:19 AM

I'm wanting to make a pink little girls quilt for Project Linus, plus I've pulled all my green strings out of the mixed bin and will start some sort of string quilt with them, and I want to make a all flying geese quilt, and then there is a project where I'm going to take several different parts of 3 patterns and mix them together into one quilt. Yep...too many irons in the fire!!

wildyard 11-09-2019 05:34 PM

Just finishing a baby quilt and starting a Jewel Box comfort quilt for a girl in 8th grade. Using lots of brights.

Decided to make a new runner for my front hall bench. Using the appliqued designs of the snowmen from SweetPea. Have some white fleece with glitter on it to use for the bodies of the snowmen and whatever fabrics I find for my color scheme in my stash as I'm not buying any fabric again for another year. Made it one year so decided to try yet another year. Didn't make as many quilts this year to use up much fabric or scraps. Also have a dresser runner that will have embroidery design blocks on the cutting table waiting in line for the embroidery machine.

Snooze2978 11-13-2019 07:24 AM

Love your layout of fabrics. I'm also taking online classes with Kari for EQ8. Decided I needed to know how to use the program to its advantage. Enjoying the lessons emensely.

Watson 11-13-2019 12:46 PM

Just spray basted a batik queen sized together today.

I usually do them on the floor of my garage, but now that we have snow and the garage is wet, I had to take all the furniture out of my foyer which ended up being 2" bigger on all sides than my quilt. Quite an adventure spray basting a quilt when you have to kneel on it to do it.

Now to quilt it on my Tiara mid arm.

I'm working on a Christmas quilt called Candy Wrappers. I have the blocks finished as of today, now I need to put it all together.

PamelaOry 11-13-2019 01:31 PM

I’m hoping to get the 2018 designer mystery bom blocks from fqs put together before thanksgiving then plan to start Bonnie Hunters Frolic mystery quilt. I seem to be a sucker for the mysteries!
