I am trying to applique some shapes onto an "I Spy" quilt.... ugh... I have ironed the wonder-under (fusible web) onto the fabric, and now I can get the paper off. What am I doing wrong, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Quilter1234

Can't help with the wonder-under, but I love your avatar.

make sure it is really cool, then roll a corner or edge until the paper separates. I have had this problem when I am in too much of a hurry. It has to cool down entirely before you try to split the layers.

I have encountered that same problem often. I take a straight pin and scratch the paper backing in the middle, ripping it a little. Grab one of the torn edges and pull off what you can. Continue until it's all off.

Also, re-ironing it can help it release. You can try to roll a corner/point between your thumb & forefinger to see if it will begin to release. This only seems to happen to me when the Wonder Under is new. With the older stuff (really old) the paper didn't want to stay stuck to the webbing long enough to get it ironed to the fabric. However, when finally ironed down, it did release nicely. Go figure.

Never had the problem. Are you removing it right away? I always wander off and do something else for a bit.

Some of the glue is stronger than others. Steam a seam lite has my vote.

It definitely has to cool down completely. I really like to iron it and leave it overnight. It is so frustrating when it doesn't peel off properly.

I try to let mine sit for awhile before removing the paper. Actually, I will often wait till the next day.

On the same subject, the instructions refer to the iron being "hot" (or is it "warm?") and I always wonder why they don't just say "cotton setting" or "Wool setting." It seems to me they used to specify.
I too have had trouble with the peeling, and I thought perhaps
(A) I was using the wrong temperature iron,
(B) the wonder under was old,
(C) I pressed it too long, or
(D) I didn't press it long enough.
So I'm interested to hear your responses.
