Sometimes I am glad that my husband doesn't sew if he did who knows
what fabrics of mine he would be "digging" into. I KNOW that I do have some fabrics that he likes. He even comments on quilts and such in all my magazines when I am looking at them. Pointing out the ones he likes/dislikes makes comments such as "I think that would look better in a color combination such as...." Sometimes that alone scares me. But a couple weeks ago a friend of mine bought the 160th Anniversary Singer machine online from Costco for $197 (yeah you read that correctly). I told my hubs that I was jealous and wanted one of those machines. He told me I had enough sewing machines. I informed him that if he didn't have enough computers then I by no means have enough machines. He went online to Costco to buy one for me but alas the sale was over and the machine was no longer listed (he was going to buy it for me). |
My DH has been very supportive about my quilting to the extent he and his friend finished off half of the basement into a really nice well insulated studio (for me)/TV area (for him) a few years ago...what a priceless gift. Recently, he worked it out that we could afford to buy my new Bailey back in September. He has done a lot for me quiltwise,but he draws the line at learning to quilt :D. I have no problem with that; he is a real keeper!

He will not learn to wind the bobbin as long as you keep filling them for him!

My Husband supports me in all the quilts I make and tells me how nice they look. That is enough for me, he has no attention to detail. That would drive me nuts. I don't want him to learn how and I don't think he wants to.

I would fill the bobbins all day if my husband would learn to sew. Heck I just wish he would learn to work on old sewing machines.

If I have any problem with one of my machines I call DH for help. He can fix anything or at least tries. He has been invaluable with the LA. The first one we had, a used Voyager, had so many problems and he spent hours working with it. When we traded it in for a new Nolting he has used it as much as I have. He loads the quilt for me and likes to quilt on it. He actually has a steadier hand than I do and is much more patience. He encouraged me to buy the Nolting when I was hesitant.

After abut 2 years of sewing my DH has finally learned to put a bobbin in his machine!!! Yeeeehaaaa! I still have to fill them for him. But, his just learning to put them in has helped me tremendously!! Now, all I have to do is fill them and put them in a drawer for him. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!!! I wonder how long it will take me to get him to learn how to fill his own bobbins!??:D

My father was color blind. In WWII he was a pilot and would have been sent to the front, but about that time digital instrumentation came out and it is RED AND GREEN. He could never pass the tests. So he was grounded and spent the entire war in Florida teaching classroom flying at the Naval Air Station in Orlando. Took Mom to the Officer's club and the Daytona Beach. Thanks Heaven he was color blind and I have no children to pass it on to. All the cars he bought were mouse gray.
