I did not know that about Youtube. I thought it was all stupid pranks. I do record and watch all quilting/sewing shows offered on TV. I watch them on the weekends when resting. I did find internet shows by Alex Anderson and Eleanor Burns and others. I find them helpful. I will have to go to Youtube this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!

Boy have I got a lot to learn. What is a tube quilt? I assume it has nothing to do with Youtube :-)

wraez 05-19-2011 11:45 AM

YouTube has so so many wonderful quilting tutorials, I could spend a whole day there and not watch all of them.

I think my favorites are by Missouri Quilt Co.

blossom808 05-19-2011 11:48 AM

Yes I go to all the ones people post on here.. Great information they give us.. Thank you.

This is me. I can read directions, but usually don't get it, regardless of how many times I re-read them. Even directions with pictures! But show me the video and I get it. I wish I'd known growing up how much of a visual learner I was. I'd have done so much better in school.

QuiltNama 05-19-2011 12:43 PM

I use utube a lot from quilting to dancing

I use youtube all the time. I have learned a lot of new stuff by surfing all the sewing and quilting videos.

decky 05-19-2011 01:32 PM

I just used utube yesterday as I needed to do odd angle binding and wasn't sure how to do it. I watched Marci Baker's video and it really help. I have nice mitered angles.

quiltingbeargal 05-19-2011 01:39 PM

Yes, this is a wonderful resource. I especially like the Sharon Schamber network on You Tube. Her films have helped me with several different techniques! Ain't modern technology grand?

sarahelloyd 05-19-2011 01:59 PM

Yup.

MissJMac 05-19-2011 04:02 PM

I just recently started watching Youtube, like this site, you can find everything regarding putting that quilt together. Don't know why I never watched before.
With the demise of "Simply Quilts" a few years ago, Youtube is a great substitute - However, I video taped all the Simple Quilt shows before it was cancelled.

Absolutely love it - especially since I live in the country - no classes around - and those that are, by time you buy the stuff for the class, you have spent a fortune. Missouri Quilt is one of my super-favorites - their direction is not only so thorough but they make it look like "fun" so yes, I also pull my laptop right up to the sewing machine and follow along. I love Youtube. Also I am sure you have noticed that more and more commercial companies are turning to producing Youtube lessons - it really is a great invention.

I watch the you tube tutorials (wish they could be longer) but how do you subscribe to a certain page....you mentioned the Missouri Star Quilt Co., how is that done?
Will be the first to admit there is so much I don't know!

Up above the video there is a button "subscribe" - press that and you will automatically be subscribed to their sessions, and next to that is another button that says how many segments they have already made, you can press that and it will load those for you to select from to watch. There is also a box to check for being emailed each time they add new stuff to their segments. Its fabulous!!

trolleystation 05-19-2011 04:48 PM

Me too...Me too.

GrannyHanaDa 05-19-2011 05:06 PM

I think Youtube is a grand way to learn things, I use it often.

Love2sew 05-19-2011 10:00 PM

I think I 'm visual learner too. I can't learn anything by telling or reading a manual but, not youtube it's easy to learn new technique for quilting or anything else.

I hope this is the right spot. I can't seem to get my post into the right forum topic.

I am always taking classes from the You Tube videos. they are very helpful in refreshing my mind on a subject that I have not done for a while.

Vickymomof6 05-20-2011 01:43 AM

Yep, I use you tube also. I like to be able to "see" how to do things.

stitchntimesewing 05-20-2011 02:37 AM

Yes, I have used it several times. I am a very visual learner.

GGrammie 05-20-2011 02:52 AM

I use it all the time.
Sometimes to learn, other times to refresh my technique.
At other time to clarify if I'm doing it better.

Never too old to learn.

Joyce Ann 05-20-2011 10:48 AM

Yes all the time, also try Missouri star quilt co. They have great tutorials

MerryQuilter 05-20-2011 03:39 PM

Yes used the 3D pinwheels and 10 min block loved them

UCHSCPSYCH 05-20-2011 04:07 PM

I use YouTube for just about everything. Personally I like the quilting ones put out by Missouri Star Quilt Company but all of them have great hits and instructions on just about anything you want.

brickley 05-20-2011 05:38 PM
