You'll notice the one comment about shops hosting free: the shop closed and is now an internet shop. $7 is quite reasonable.

My local shop started charging $5.00 per week for us to use their classroom. We were told that if the classroom was not there, the space could be used for more products which would help them make more money. Realistically, we do not purchase anything unless we need it or it's too cute to pass up. I'm happy to pay the fee. That way, I feel no guilt during the months that I do not purchase from them.

The room could be used for a class or two instead of a get together, so it does cost the owner real money to offer the use of the room.

I think the fee is reasonable but perhaps a monthly pass or a pass that includes X number of get togethers at a lower rate could be offered.

I really don't understand the problem with $7 with food included. In FL it costs between $5-7 or more for lunch anywhere...so if food is out for you to eat, then I can't see that anyone is getting ripped off - on the contrary, it is more than generous...it is like paying for the food and sewing for free.

The only ones who might feel that way are those who won't/can't eat anything.

I certainly don't understand the problem.

I used to meet at a quilt store and sew and there was no fee. However, the people invited to sew ended up spending far more than $7.00, way more!

The QS I frequent asks for $3 from those who sit and sew to help offset overhead. No food or drink is provided.
