I prefer the glass-head 2" long very fine pins, but I have the Clover flower-head and the cheap flower-head. The nice ones from the LQS must have been there so long they had started to oxidize, because the surface wasn't really shiny and smooth and I hadto clean them and polish them so they would go through the six layers of fabric in my OBW. They were sharp point but dull on the shaft.

I have a set of the old flower pins from JAF (probably Dritz) and they work fine. I just use them in attaching numbers to the top of my Bargello strips to prevent me from making an error of getting the strips in the wrong order when I am ready to sew them.

I have also had this problem. Some I bought were just thinner and went into fabric better and others were just thick. I bought some at Hobby Lobby and Hancocks, and they were all thick. Not sure of the brand though. I am going to go check out Clover ones online.

Back when I started quilting, 15 years ago, I bought the flower head pins. They were nice and sharp and went through the fabric easily. I bought several packages recently and find them to be very dull and can barely go through the fabric. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the thin, sharp ones still available? If so, any idea where I can get them?

Even though I gasp at the price of pins I buy the more expensive ones because for something that I use a lot and over and over again I don't want the frustration of having to struggle with them. The better pins are a good investment over the long run.
