Question on Red Snappers

red snappers
This is a question for all longarm quilters...I have been quilting on a longarm for only a couple of months and recently viewed a video demonstrating Red Snappers - an alternative to pinning the quilt top and back to the leaders. Please let me know your opinions, pro or con, if you have ever used these. I constantly seem too be sticking myself and the Snappers appear to offer a painless solution. Thanks!
I love mine. I cut mine into 4ft and 2ft sections so that I can easily put them on and work with any size quilt on my 10ft frame.

I have the ones made by leader grips (www.leadergrips.com) I love them. They are easy to use, but it did take a little practice

I rent a long arm quilting machine at our LQS. It has the zipper system and I think it is awesome. I bought a zipper set for using on my quilts. I baste a zipper to the top and bottom of the backing, and just on the bottom of the quilt top at home. Then when I go to the shop to do the quilting all I have to do is zip my fabrics to the zippers on the longarm and quilt away. It is so simple.
We tried the poor man's red snappers (DH made them) but they were to hard for me to use. We recently upgraded from a wooden frame to a metal frame and it has the zippers and I love them. It is so easy to load and unload. I like them so muçh better than pinning. I find them so much more accurate with centering and advancing.

I have red snappers, but do not use them. The only time I have ever had to add more backing was using the red snappers and it happened every time I used them. I do a lot of charity quilting and usually the backing is only 6" larger than the width and length. The things are so flexible I had a hard time getting the quilt straight. I did like the speed putting on and taking off a quilt. DH also likes the speed. I may try them again when we have extra backing fabric. The tightness was another problem. I have RA is both hands.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just bought a LA and I told DH that I would come up with another way to load my quilts other than using pins. I was taught to sew them on but I didn't want to do that each time, way too much thread wasted for me. So I will be ordering the Red Snappers ASAP. I just knew there was another way !
