Default Question regarding photo quilt

Long have longed (pun intended) to do a photo memory quilt. Do you lovely ladies know of any tutorials for doing one? Thank you.

I am working on one for my granddaughter, who just graduated from high school. I used the Bubble Jet method. Working great for me. Just google Bubble Jet.

Sewing with Nancy did a whole segment on photo quilts last year? It may be recorded from another year but you could check her site to see if she has any info on it. I've never done one but the ones I've seen that I like the best, have smaller photo surrounded by pieced blocks. If you do the photos too large then you have to decide if you want to quilt through them if the batting requires it. I don't like how the bigger photos always look puffy/wrinkly without quilting in them. I have seen a few with a stipple right through large photos but I think it spoils the picture but that is just my opinion.

What type of photo do you want? There are several ways of doing it. Maybe show us some samples of what you want to do, and we can help find some answers for you. You can print a realistic photo using your computer printer (as msbRON suggested. You can do patchwork to make a photo like Tammy Bowser does. You can make your photo into applique like Charlotte WarAnderson. You can print with cyanotype fabric (my favorite technique - I have some examples in my two cyanotype albums). You can make the photo into thread paintings (just learned to do this fun technique, two examples in my Cut Work Others album).

Oh, and will this be a wall hanging or a bed quilt? May make a diff how you do it. I agree with Tartan - don't like quilting going across a face.
