I have used steam a seam and found it ok but am a bit of a traditionalist so the bulk of my applique is needleturned - likewise have never tried it with flannel or fleece sounds interesting - any piccies?

I only use wonder under. I've done a raw edge invisible thread finish and a blanket stitch finish with it.

I've only done needleturn, but recently watched someone on tv using fusible and now I'm wanting to give it a try. I'll now remember to cut out the middle if it's a large area.

Also, when using felt, am I right in presuming that you don't have to have a seam allowence, just steam/press and blanket stitch the edges?

Do you use felt that has been wash to shrink & put it on a cotton base?

that's correct--for fleece and felt you don't need a seam allowance. It's wonderful fabric to work with because it doesn't fray. My needle goes through it like melted butter.
