I'll have to find that book -maybe my quilt guild has it.
Thank you all for your comments. I'm a few years from making a firm decision but too excited about it not to start thinking about it! (If that makes sense).

While I was at my LQS sit and sew today, I looked at the Janome 6600. The throat space looked great. I have a less complicated Janome - the 3050 already. It has enough fancy stitches for the amount that I use them. In four years, I'll have two different sewing spaces (as a snow bird) so am thinking ahead. I really don't want to have to drag machines from state to state.

There is another option that you didn't have... a Bailey. You can use it as a sit down or on a frame so if down the road you decide to get a frame you will not have to get a different machine. They are also very reasonable. They do not have feed dogs so it is only for quilting but if you already have a machine for piecing then that should not be an issue.

The Bailey comes in 13", 15" and 17" and is half the price as the HQ16... as far as light goes... hit Home Depot and get yourself a $20 torch lamp with an adjustable reading light on it as well. What a huge difference that makes! It's just the right height to not cast a lot of shadows and it doesn't get in the way much. I wish I had gotten one sooner :)

I have a corner in my dining room and a Janome Horizon 7700 with an 11" throat and lots of bells and whistles and I love it.
