Default Quick Question

I am going to throw together a jelly roll quilt for my new baby cousin, and I was wondering if this would work. Could I make just a regular jelly roll quilt, and then fold it in half, using the top half for the backing, and the bottom half for the front? I mean in theory that makes sense to me, but would that work for the size of a baby quilt or would it need to be bigger/smaller. If what I am reading is right, then a finished jelly roll w/o borders or anything is around 50 x 64. If I half it, then it would end up 50 x 32. Is there a better way to do this?

I do not know of a better way, but it sounds like it would work.

It might make it a little difficult to get the front and the back square with each other when you go to baste them together but other than that I don't see why not.

The other thing is that a jelly roll just refers to the fact that the strips have been cut to 2.5". The NUMBER of strips per roll varies by mfg and the particular fabric line. Your roll could have as few as 20 or as many as 44, so your estimation on the finished size of the top made by sewing the strips together may be way off.

Sounds good to me.
Good luck.

I have made the jelly roll quilt using 40 strips. That makes the size you are talking about, I think. When you fold it in half, are you going to cut it to make two separate pieces? Wouldn't the bottom piece have to be a little larger than the top to accommodate the quilting? Or are you going to tie the quilt?
