Quilt Labels

You need to put date that it was created, Who pieced it, who quilted it, who it was for (if it was) any why (birthday, etc..).
My quilting partner also suggest putting the market value on it. That way non-quilters will know its value. Unfortantly many non-quilters don't realize what has gone into the making of the quilt. They see import quilts in adds for a fraction of what you can amke it for.
Another thing that you might do is to sew your name inside the quilt along the binding, so that if it is stolen, you have proff that its yours. You would be surprized how many quality quilts get taken each year, and without proof, you have no way to get it back.

Info I include is the same as the other gals. Sometimes I use a pre printed fabrric label but often I use a plain piece of fabric that goes nicely with the backing and write on it with Permanent Color Pens, then heat set the writting. I machine stitch 2 sides of the label to a quilt corner, stitching will be covered when I turn the binding back, I feel it keeps the label attached to the quilt through washings and wear and tear. I hand stitch the 2 other sides down. May in Jersey

name of the quilt, my name, date, city, state, fiber content and laundering (care) instructions.... are the basics.
if it was made for a special occassion or a special person the information concerning that is also added; i have made a few very basic labels and i have made ones that were a whole page...a letter if you will...
sometimes more is better, sometimes not necessary but i do always include quilt name, my name, city, state and the care instructions/fiber content...if i use a poly or wool batt i put that on the label with the 100% cotton top, or what ever it may be.
