Quilt Raffle Tickets
What is the general opinion of the price of a raffle ticket for quilts. I have made 3 bike-themed lap quilts, (about 60 x 72) for Ragbrai (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). These are for a fundraiser for the shelter house here in town. We started out with $l.00 and the committee raised it to $5.00 per ticket. They can buy as many as they want. Also made 22 lined tote bags (about 15"x15") out of the leftovers and we started out with $10 on those and the committee raised it to $20. What's your opinion on prices? We certainly want to make as much as possible for the shelter house.

I think $5 is steep for a raffle ticket. Most groups seem to charge $1 per ticket (even for elaborate bed size quilts) and you get 6 or 7 tickets for $5. That draws in those who are only willing to part with $1, while rewarding those who give more. I think you get more money in the long run that way. I think the price on the tote bags is good, but if they don't sell you can always reduce the price later.

We do an annual raffle at our county fair for a fund raiser. It is a dollar a ticket or 6 for $5.00. A good raffle will generate from $500-$1,000.00 for us. We usually come in closer to the $1,000.00. Remember, its paper you are selling. People are more willing to give up $5.00 if they feel like they are getting a better deal.
