We are lucky enough to have about 30 quilting shops in Alaska. The fabrics you bought are designed specifically for us and are designed aand/or made for us each year. One of the quilting cruises came into Seward in august and we had agreat time visiting with them while they were here. Hope to go on one myself sometime.

Batiks are my favorites and I have heard only good things about that shop. Especially love the blue/green grouping!

Shops in Alaska are few and far between. Haven't been to Skagway yet but there is a cute shop across from the lodges outside Denali and there was a local on in Healy about 10 miles away. And then, I don't know of any till you hit the cities. But then, haven't been there in two years

We took an inside passage cruise a few years ago - it was the best trip I've been on and loved Alaska. The batiks you and your hubby picked out are really gorgeous but I don't have a pattern inspiration at this time. Have fun!

I am enjoying this thread a great deal! I live in Sitka, Alaska, and Lisa Moore is one of our good friends. We are fortunate to be able to preview her new patterns - what a treat!

Trish McGee, who owns the Rushin' Tailor shop in Skagway, winters here in Sitka also. She's a great lady who shares her designs with us also.

I am delighted to share all these kind words with both these ladies. Please stop in Sitka and say hello if any of you are ever by this way again.

    Happy quilting!!

HIs fabric choices are first rate! I have no idea what pattern. You will have to take him fabric shopping often-he has a good eye!

I know that there do seem to be a lot of quilt shops in AK. My husband's dad's place is near Talkeetna, AK and I was there in May. One day I went into the town and found in one of the souvenir shops, a bunch of alaskan themed fabrics--beautiful! And a lady was working the fabric area. While I was choosing a couple of fabrics, a group of ladies came on up and also started looking. I think a cruise tour bus came up (to view THE mountain) that day.

Then, I went down to Wasilla and found Sylvia's and bought a bunch more...really quite a bit. Then, I found the one in Palmer and found a couple more beautiful fabrics to buy--designed by someone from Anchorage. I only made it to those three shops, however. I was afraid to go in anymore!

I didn't buy any batiks, however.

We are taking an Alaskan cruise for our 50th anniversary next July. We will be in Skagway and I can't wait to shop at the Rushin' Tailor. A friend told me about the shop. Please post a photo of your quilt when it is finished.
