Hi Everyone,

I now have a new to me embroidery machine, yay! Before having one, I never really paid too much attention to how us quilters are using embroidery designs in our quilts. Well now I can, so I was wondering if anyone here would like to share some of the things they do.

For instance, last month I found a new BOM that incorporates embroidery by stitching out words on block backgrounds around the center of the quilt. I was so enamored with the pattern, that I asked a local quilter and machine embroiderer what she would charge to stitch these words out for me. She ended up selling me my new machine! How's that for a reply/sales pitch?

In case anyone is interested in this six month BOM, you can find it here:

So, now I'm wanting to learn all I can about my new machine, but especially how I can use it in conjunction with my quilting. What kinds of patterns and/or projects would you suggest? I'm especially interested in small gifts that I can make for Christmas at this point.

Thanks so much,

Karla

I have made a few wall hangings with embroidery on my webshots site. You can check them out below:

The only thing I've done with embroidery in a quilt was the child's name and birth day and adoption day.

Wow, thank you for such a wonderful slide show. You are quite a prolific quilter, Dorothy. So many wonderful projects. I just love the way you included embroidered designs into your wall hangings and quilt labels. All, were wonderfully done. Thanks so much for the neat ideas, too. :D

Each square was done separately the backing is a little larger and if you to to bayside quilting you can find a tute on the fun and done I sandwiched it and quilted through all three layers front, batting, and backing It was polished cotton, It did turn out quite pretty for a first try.

you will have a lot of fun with your new machine, you can use it for the quilting part of a quilt by using redwork designs or they have quilting designs that are really pretty.

Which machine did you get?

Just take it slow there is a lot to learn about these machines..

Here is a quilt that I made using my Hus machine

this was quilted using redwork designs

Thanks Donna, for taking the time to explain the method behind the construction of this lovely quilt. What about the block designs? Did you do those free motion quilting, or??

Thanks,
