Mrs. Mike,
Alaska? Bonnie Hunter? Quilting? A Good Friend? This is can't miss! Even I, who have sworn to NEVER, ever take another cruise, would consider going.
The key here is you are going with a friend who also shares a hobby with you. I was on my own on a regular Caribbean cruise. I could have stayed home, set my hair on fire and had more fun. Go and make us proud!

DH's alumni group did the Alaska tour a few years ago. The first day on ship I went went exploring to see what was available & came upon a room , locked, but I could see thru the large window that it was stocked full of Bernina's, new in boxes. Learned it was a quilt tour, I couldn't join in so I had to stand in front of the window drooling every day (No, not really, and they would let me in to buy from their little store but I couldn't take any classes) But I learned that at every port the quilt group were headed to quilt stores so I would follow them. I think they thought I was a stalker. LOL I did buy a couple of unique patterns, a little fabric just because it was from Alaska but most of the fabric was the same as here, just more expensive.
I think a quilt cruise with Bonnie Hunter would be fantastic!

there are quilt shops walking distance from the docks in Skagway, Jueaanu & ketchican......great fun....when I went it was with a watercolor group and we painted during sailing time and sketched and painted during hiking and glacier time.

My mother and I went on a quilting cruise several years ago. We had a blast. On the "at sea" days we had quilting classes. We had the oportunity to quilt at night after dinner but usually when we were in port we didn't have quilting time. I say go for it and have fun!

I just returned from a quilting cruise with Kaye Wood, sponsored by Round Bobbin. It was for 7 days and the days we were at sea were class days. We could select the classes we wanted - so you could take as few or as many as you wanted. We had several great classes, made a few things, and even learned some new techniques. All tools and sewing machines were provided. Meeting other quilters was a bonus. My roomate, who goes to class here in WI with me, even learned something new and she is a long-time quilter. The ship was the Navigator of the Sea, from Royal Caribbean and it was a great ship. We had several adventures as well (no air conditioning, she got sea sick and I got a sinus problem). Any way, I would suggest looking into one carefully, and to see what classes are offered and excursions, not just price. The cruise itself was fun and I had a great time in ports - riding horseback on the beach, helicopter over the island, and swimming with dolphins. Food was good and I won money at the casino!
