I use all my gadgets at one time or another but some of my favorites are
1. Big Look
2. Gypsy Cutter (for chain piecing)
3. Clapper
4. Steady Betty
5. Hot Hemmer ruler
6. Add a quarter ruler
7. Zirkel magnetic pincushion
8. rotating mat
9. Bias tape machine
10. Sidewinder
I have the Go and over a hundred dies but I consider that as essential as my sewing machine.

The Big Look is a magnifier that goes on your machine (http://www.thebiglook.co/Home_Page.html).

The first gadget that came to mind when I read this thread was stiletto. I would not want to quilt without it. I have a few things I use that aren't traditionally stilettos in case mine Clover one isn't right at my machine (because I've taken my !). I have a porcupine quill, a skewer, That Purple Thing, the back side of a seam ripper, or even a long quilting pin.
I remember seeing Eleanor Burns once saying that her stiletto was her favorite tool, too.

I use the clapper every time I press a seam. It makes the seam flat and takes the heat out of the fabric. A clapper has always been essential for tailors and seamstresses. There is a reason for it to be a must have for them.

I bought one at a quilt show, much reduced price. The second from my guild where we made a mass order for all members for a reduced price and I bought one at full price for my retreat/workshop travel notion bag. I have the Brother 1500 and the regular size one fits it. The very long machines need the long extension bar. I need one more to have one on every machine I have set up in my sewing room. They are portable but I rather not spend my time setting one up when I change machines.

To me, each tool is as important as the next. One I use for one thing, I use another for another thing, and neither of them are used on the same block. I have a big basket that my mother made and everything goes in there from this to that and each of them are equally important. I use a lot of tools. I even have a needle threader that is dated 1972, which is strong and will never break - unless I lose it!!!!! Edie
