Reminder for all marking products! ... TEST TEST TEST .... because it works for one person, does not mean it is not foolproof! Test it with the same fabrics, treatments and conditions as your project is and will be under!

Thank you so much for having this thread I ran out of ink last night and I was so upset. The marks had disappeared and I had to redraw some of my cloud pattern. The chalk pencils I have won't show up well so I'll buy the Sewline Ceramic pencils and see how that goes. I'll update how I like them.

As someone posted on another thread - you can save $'s by buying the refills and putting them in a mechanical pencil that takes .9 lead. Most take .7 so I looked and looked everywhere. Finally found Paper Mate brand at Target! I think it was only $2.99 vs. $14.

for the backside of the fabric i just use a regular old mechanical pencil... cheap and readily available anywhere..
I have the fons and porter WHITE mechanical pencil.. I love it for darker fabs
I have a white one and grey Collins brand soapstone (pen style ones) i like ALOT..and it was less than $5 too.......
the markers ive never had good luck with.. it seems to be a one time use.. once opened it stops working the next day..
Nowadays there are soooooo many to choose from... I do hope you find one, two, or even three that work great for you..

I have used the Sewline pink ceramic pencil. It marks well and I have had good success with it washing out. At times, it does rub off slightly with handling of the fabric, but I'm always able to see the sewing line. Going to try the ultimate pounce powder and see what happens. Also, going to give the Clover white marking pen a try for darker fabrics...I'm always willing to try different tools. You never know if there is a better way unless you experiment. :-)
