I prefer the YLI hand quilting thread and it is the best I have ever used. As already said it is glazed and it is not necessary to use additional beeswax or thread heaven. This thread does not tangle or knot because of the covering.
Another brand I have used is Coats Dual Duty. It's made of a Polyester with a cotton cover and it's also glazed. Both brands are available in most shops here.

I have some older ($1.69/250 yard spool) of C&C DD hand quilting thread. Might be 10-20 years old. Was stored away from light and dust. Seems fine...should I toss it or donate it?

I found an ebay seller who has this glazed thread for like 10.00 an it has a lot of yardage on it..well over a 1000 yard on a cone in the color Im needing. Is this the standard price of this thread?

My LQ shop does not carry any hand quilting thread and was trying to talk me into using King Tut thread. Does anyone know if King Tut would work for hand quilting. I am wanting to use varigated thread and this was her suggestion.

I used it for handquilting -- my very first quilt. I liked it very much but didn't really know why until I recently started some hand-quilting without it! Now that I've read this great thread (no pun intended!) I realize why I liked it. I think I have looked for it at JoAnne's but didn't find it. I THINK I bought mine at Hancocks when I was just a baby newbie -- now I am a junior newbie lol
