Quilts for Area Rugs
#22
The quilt is made with batiks. I used batting and put it together just like a quilt, and then did the binding. There is just my husband and me and our 5 pound Chi at home now, and we don't wear shoes in the house so it really won't get much wear.

The quilt pattern I used was County Lines. It had directions for a 5' x 7' rug which was exactly what I need. I just made the quilt and laid it over the existing rug.

It's beautiful. I think having your "cheap rug" under it will help stabilize the quilt so it doesn't "wander" or "scoot around", plus protect the back of the quilt. I really do like your quilted area rug.

So funny!! Animals are such characters aren't they?
When I had visitors I put a quilt on the floor to look homely. When they went picked it up and put it on the back of the sofa. Why you ask. Well my dogs thought it was put on the floor for skating on. They would do running jumps on it to slide across the wooden floor , so the game got stopped after visitors went. They were not in the room for sliding while visitor was.

You have done a terrific job. I think it looks great with your couches. However, like others, I would find it impossible walking on it. I would tiptoe all around, even jump over the couch to avoid stepping on that quilt.
Be forwarned------ IF you buy that rubberized backing to go under the quilt so that it doesn't slip around, IT WILL DISCOLOR your hardwood floors. Several of my floors are badly discolored even without that backing---just because they have been under the dining table for 15 years or so. You will have to find a rug of the same dimensions when this one needs to be replaced or the color difference will be pretty obviouis.

IT IS TRUE! The rubberized mats will discolor hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and even carpet.. My carpet cleaning company asked me what happened to my carpet after I had a rubber-backed throw rug sitting by the fireplace so that no sparks came out onto the carpet. It was yellowed in the area of that little rug.

I think it is gorgeous. The colors are perfect. I'm like some of the others though & would have a hard time walking on it. Maybe knowing I was making a rug rather than a quilt it would be easier to walk on. Great job!
