Perhaps the discoloration is just from natural aging........covered stays original, exposed changes due to age, wear, light exposure, cleaning, whatever .......just a guess........I would put that lovely quilt on the back if one of the sofas and keep searching for an acceptable area rug.....just me.

While it is hard to see dimension in a picture, I think the layering looks great.

Just perfect! Thank you so much for your post. I have been looking for "just the right rug" for my entry hall for a LONG time. It would seldom be walked on as around this house everyone goes to the back door for entry. I love the way you layered yours...it gives the perfect accent to the quilt. Great job!

Your quilt looks really cool on the floor. I just couldn't bring myself to put a quilt on the floor to walk on.

Great idea! Your rug looks terrific! You've given me inspiration to try one myself. It's going on the bucket list.

I don't see the, "under rug," in the picture. Personally, if it were me...I would not use one of those waffle weave rug pads. I had one for a regular rug and it was always a mess...scrunching up, folding over, peeking out from under the rug, crumbling, tearing, etc. I finally threw it out. I don't even think that it helped keep the rug from slipping that much. If your quilt-rug isn't getting hard wear and it's not in a high traffic area, then I'd just let it go bare underneath.
