There may be a pattern somewhere, as I was inspired by a few pictures on Pinterest. I just made mine from all the same sized pieces, which in my case I cut at 2.0x3.0 inches for a finished size of 1.5x2.5 inches. The two similar quilts were made with the same sized pieces, but one was made in blocks and the other in loooooonnnnnggg rows. I recommend doing the blocks. I suppose that I could have cut out background pieces in specific sizes for the second one, but just went the easy way of sewing the required number to get to the edge and trimming the ones that needed half a piece cut off at the edges.

Scraps go in three places. If they are earth tones and at least 8 inches long, they will go into a Latilla quilt I am building on Muslin. If they are not, they go into a bag for when I feel like working on my crazy quilt also on large pieces of muslin. I just sew and flip, then using a contrasting thread, do a blanket stitch around each addition. It's a work in progress. The third thing is for real scrappy stuff I am tired of or just don't like. It gets folded and used for test when I replace a bobbin or change a stitch setting on the Bernina. Old fashion. I only have acouple of shopping bags filled with scraps. Slacker. tim

I found out that a young neighbour was learning to sew. She was about 12 at that time, a few years ago. Hoping to encourage her to continue, I gave her a lot of fabric and thread. She and her brother both do a lot of crafts and projects. One group I quilt with save me their scraps but then some of the fabric is not to my taste so I am making a scrap quilt now with the last batch I was given and am already looking forward to giving them the leftovers. I don't feel the need to hang on to what I don't think is pretty.
